Radio not working
Radio not working
I have a 95 with factory radio (bose series think it was like 200 watts?) any ways I get no radiio at all except one station sometimes. Well after about a year or so I couldn't take it. So I looked at my anttenna. See I hit a deer on pass side awhile back and thought that maybe they didn't have a good connection to ant. or something. Anyways i pulled it out some and found it was connected. On a side note you can access it from in the trunk, I didn't know that till half way done. Well it was connected so I just figured it must be the piece of crap tuner in the radio itself. Well my wife goes to goto the stoe and asks me, "whats wrong with the radio?" I said "what?" Now we dont get anything. when you turn it on it does nothing. wont spit cd out, wont play, nothing. The time is displayed but thats it. Anybody out there know what is going on here and what I can do too remedy it?. I'll have to wait on getting a whole new system (cause I wont buy another bose system that I have to replace intirely) but at least I was able to listen to the cd.
I can't go with out a radio people. Please help me.

when my CD got stuck inside my radio in my Z, I had to unplug the battery for a bit, reconnected it and was able to eject the CD. as for the noise getting louder? you mean the music? its controlled by the SVC (or something like that), its that dial around the main volume button.
No. what im saying is the radio wont pick up any stations.. its like the ant. wasn't hooked up. I could sometimes get 2-3 fuzzy stations to pick up but other than that you hit scan and it would just go through with no stopping (not picking up stations). but I didnt know if it was the radio itself just going bad.. or the ant. So what I did was take a look at the ant. connection. It was plugged in so I just figured it was the radio. I plugged the ant. back in and left it.. well today when my wife went to go to store, the radio wouldnt work at all.. or cd ( which had worked fine the whole time before). so what happened.. all I did was unplug the ant. and plug it back in.. now nothing works. except ther time shows on display. what I was saying is the radio would make some kind of noise and would get louder as you drove the car down road.
I think that it is time to bite the bullet and get a new head unit. After market head units are a lot better anyways. Better sound quality and nicer features. Plus changing it out on our cars is very simple. The only thing is that if it is the bose you are going to have to splice in a wire to bypass the amp at each speaker. Hope this helps. It really just sounds like the unit is just going bad.
Yeah thats about what I figured. I went outside and looked again at connection. making sure the ant. was securely pressed in. I went around to turn it on and bam.. it was working again. The radio was picking up several stations but that doesnt mean alot right yet. I don't live in the woods so it should pick them up. Anyways it is working for now.
Ok If I go out and buy a new head unit like a pioneer DEH-P47DH. what all would I have to do?. I know theres something with the connection. You said splice a wire to by-pass amps to speakers. How will that affect them after that?.. will it still have the same volume or am I going to have to get another amp for them all?.. or do I have to replace speakers too?..Just never had to fool with it and Im a little leery about it all.. Shes my baby since her birth and I try and take care of her.

Well thats good that you can get stations now. If I didn't have radio I would go crazy. Anyways back to your question. What I meant about the bypassing of the amps is that the bose system has an amplifier at each speaker in your car which is controlled by a pre amplified signal from your head unit. When you replace the head unit with an aftermarket one you have to bypass the amplifiers at each speaker. That is because your new head unit has its own amplifer inside that sends out an amplified signal rather than the preamplified one from the bose. All you have to do to bypass the amplifier at the speakers is locate the two wires coming from the factory wiring harness that goes from the radio to the amplifier/speaker. You cut the wire before the amplifer and splice in a new one to reconect it directly to the speaker. If I remember correctly you have about a 6" pigtail that comes of the speaker and goes to the amplifier and that is were you can conect the new wires. The Pioneer that you mentioned is a nice unit but you don't have to worry about getting one that is the same size as your factory one. If you find another one that is smaller in size you just have to get a "dash kit" for your car. Sometimes the smaller ones are a better unit and cost alittle less. They are real easy to put in to. Anyways I hope this cleared things up for you.
Yeah that does help. Is there a paticular unit that find that is good or maybe the "best"? cause if I do wind up having to replace it, I want to get a good one of course. Cause with my drive back and forth from work, man I would go crazy.. it was killing me for my 98.1 the ticket (espn radio) to keep fading in and out or just be static.. especially during the scores.. anyways I do appreciate the help.
Gainsville huh?.. cool fellow floridian..although I do have to admit ..Im a Seminole fan
