Radar Detector Suggestions Wanted

I drive a red 89 firebird. Its only a V6 but I drive fast and have a flowmaster on it. I need a radar detector but don't really know what to look for. Can someone point out what features make one better than another? What one should I get. I want to keep it under $75 if possible.

You won't find much, except maybe used, in that price category. You might look up Uniden's site, and see what they have in their refurb store.

$75 is really limiting your options.

Best deal out there right now:
https://www.hotbuy4u.com/catalog.cfm?do=list&catID=11

Cobra ESD 9110 10 band

I just got one for $50 shipped. It's no V1 but for $50 it gets the job done and will be bound to pay for itself.

they are supposed to be a "wholesale" operation but you don't need a tax id etc. all you do is fill out the company info as you own and then say ship to same address and don't click the drop ship option.

What are the differnces between the ones that are slightly more expensive? I don't want to get a cheap one, speed, then get a ticket becuase it sucks. Thanks for any input.

speeding ticket of more than 10 over = $100 +
insurance increase per year = $100 + easily
$75 you're willing to spend now

answer - buy a Passport 8500 or V1

Thanks but I will pass on the Passport. I don't drive more than 10 over most of the time and I don't have any tickets so the first one won't affect my insurance anyway.

I've tried all but some of the newest versions but all I can honestly recommend if a V-1. I LOVE mine! I know it's well out of your price range but if you can save up and find a deal on a used one it's well worth the investment in the long run. JMHO

If your looking at the cobra one just stick with the one I reccommended earlier. The other slightly more ones don't detect anything that one does any better. I think the difference is that some of those talk and have built in compass systems.

Are there any that don't have to go on the windsheild, I think it looks corny as hell. My dad got one for his car, it is "built in" but cost $1500!!! Or can they be placed somewhere else? Thanks

I'm gonna hide mine. I will install an antennae on the windshield, hide the electronics under the dash and run the LEDs by my speedometer. It will look good and the cops won't know.
