The more watts the amp puts out the more current it will draw. The more current it draws the bigger wire it needs. No use in buying 4 gauge if it's only a 200WRMS amp.

Also if you are actually going to have 2000WRMS, you should look into getting a HO alt. Just adding a battery dose no good, if you stock alt can't already keep the one you got charged, how can it charge two.

Re: power question

Would also be helpful if you told if you planned to run distribution blocks, or if you are going to link the amps...

Re: power question

i'm talking about main power wire for the car in general. not a large guage step down. just curious what others would run.

CAps are useless, upgrade your wires for better results...

Caps are not totaly uselss, just most people don't use them for what they are meant to be used for. It's fine to use them on a already upgraded electrical system (HO alt, upgraded wire, battery).

As far as the wire for your alt and stuff... I used 4 gauge for my 200 amp alt. The size wire will depend on the current going through it, and the length of the wire. Mine from the alt to the battery is only like a foot long, so 4 gauge will work just fine for me.

Yea they are not totally useless but he doesnt have an upgraded elecrical system, thats why i suggested that he upgrade the wire he is runing to allow more current to flow. A cap with his current system in my opinion would prove to be useless, unless he upgraded some things...
