NEW stereo in OLD car
NEW stereo in OLD car
Instead of asking you guys how to install a sound system, I was just wondering if maybe anyone knows of any basic install guides for installing one. I'm talking head unit, sub and a few speakers.
BTW it's a fairly cheapass Sony Xplod system all around and it's going in a 1971 Monte Carlo lol. It will be my first stereo install ever, I've heard it's really easy, but I figure I'll take any help you guys can give me.
Thanks a lot

well theres the car audio forums, you can google that, but ill give you some useful info.
head unit: theres 3 basic wires, plus speaker wires. you have your yellow wire (from the new stereo) which is your constant power wire. it is fused and needs to be run to a solid power point. You have the red wire (thinner than the yellow one) and it needs to be connected to your ignition. this is the wire that tells the radio to turn on with the key turned on. if there was a previous stereo then use a multi-meter to find this wire. finally you have the ground. it needs to be run directly to a piece of metal that is connected to the chassis.
the only other wire to look at is your remote turn on lead, usually either blue, or another color with a blue stripe. this is an output that is sent to your amp which tells it to turn on when the head unit is turned on.
aside from those, you have your speaker wires.
Sub: well this is running off an amp, so the amp gets that remote turn on lead from the head unit, power wire coming directly from the battery, and a ground (once again, to chassis). then you have your speaker wire. the gauge of the power wire is important, make sure its thick enough or you could have a fire hazard.
