Need some car-stereo help

Ok I know that I will be going with either Infinity or RockFord Fosgate for speakers, so let's keep the "well these are better" crap to a minimum ok?
I am looking for some decent 15's. These will be going into my new Lincoln Mark 8 I will be getting in a few weeks. A box and amp, etc.. will already be taken care of so..
Which brand (Infinity or RockFord Fosgate) offers the best, most quality piece of 15" sub?

Re: Need some car-stereo help

go to www.caraudioforum.com and ask there. you could get an off brand one that's probably better for cheaper.

that's not going to be fun trying to fit a box for 2 15's in that trunk. have you looked at the Kicker L7s? i've got a 12" one and love it. you'd probably be more than happy with 2 of them. since they're square, they're closer in surface area to a 15". a lot of people like to talk **** on them though. expect to spend anywhere from $210-$400 per sub for the L7s.

The sound you are looking for in 60% enclosure, 20% powering it correctly, 20% speaker you buy. Unless you are DB drags, 2 15's is a waste of space.

Check out www.fbodyaudio.com they have helped me with everything when i was building up my system, some of them are even members on here

Re: Need some car-stereo help

I run 4 Infinity Reference 12's in the beater Corsica. They are quite cheap ($45 shipped on eBay), don't require tons of power (300 wRMS max) and sound great. I'm sure they make a 15" model but don't know much about it. I have run RF DVC's before, 2 12's in a 91 RS. They sounded awesome but this is before RF was made in China and sold in Best Buy.

If you're getting cheap subs in the first place, might as well check out the Infinity References. If you're wanting to spend a little more, go with a mid-range RF line like HX2, Power, Power DVC, etc. Don't get the bottom of the line RF stuff.

Exactly... One properly enclosed and powered 10" or 12" sub will sound a LOT better than 2 15" subs in the wrong enclosure.

My suggestion would be to ditch RF for the subs unless you are going to their top of the line, and even then I say look at the Elemental Designs A-Series, Adire Brahma, or Resonant Engineering XXX sub. Any of those 3 (Especially the Brahma or XXX) will DESTROY anything RF could even muster.

But like Wraith stated, the enclosure is the LARGEST factor in any subwoofer design.

Re: Need some car-stereo help

I'm not worried about enclosures and amps because my dad has been in the stereo business (self employed) for the past 20 years, and he started his stereo career by installing his first stereo in his '67 Camaro. He also hooked me up with a custom box in my Z. My dad's not too keen on the RF and Infinity models though, and I know a lot of people on here are.
Robvas- One 10" might be a good idea if I want a ghetto POS system lol. NOTHING can compare to 2 15" monsters pounding away at a custom ported enclosure The trunk on the Lincoln is HUUUUGE so I'm also not worried about fitting the box in there.
I will check out some of the model speakers listed so far.
I am under the assumption that the Referance series is junk???

Re: Need some car-stereo help

I'm looking for loudness as well as quality. I dont want a speaker that's gonna blow the f*ck apart, but I want it to sound good at high volumes.

Re: Need some car-stereo help

i really think 2 15's is overkill. you're going to drown everything else out and not to mention rattle the car apart.

my Durango rattles like crazy now from having my 12" in there. it sucks, but it drowns out the rattles.

Re: Need some car-stereo help

I like the two 12's in my Z, but it just doesn't "thunder" enough if you know what I mean...
I know what 2 15's will sound like. A guy named Ryan Reedy from Dunkirk (millionaire by lawsuite) has 4 15" in his Escalade and MOTHERF*CKER does it pound! When the volume is low, it sounds like thunder off in the distance.
But I'm not too worried about them drowning everything out. I am buying another set of 5-way 330watt rms Pioneer 6x9's to tuck away

Re: Need some car-stereo help

If you want loud and sound quality together, you really only have 3 sound options, and NONE are RF or Infinity... they don'y make SQL speakers..

As for loud and clear, then go Brahma, XXX, or W7.. those ARE the loudest and cleanest ****'n subs available today, hands down. No RF/Infinity even comes close.

Re: Need some car-stereo help

Infinity Perfect's are the only other subs Infinity makes, unless you want to go old school and find some Infinity Beta's. The Beta 15 was supposed to be really good, and I know the Perfects are good but they're $$$ and more oriented towards SQ.

I know the Reference series is the lowest end available, but I'm very pleased with my 12's. They sound just as good as Elemental Designs K series, Shocker II's and RF DVC's that I've owned, and they sound better than Orion HCCA's, JL W0's, and Audiobahn AW1200's, which I've also owned. I recommend you give them a shot, for the money they can't be beat.

If you're just throwing money around pick up some RF HX2 Power or Power DVC's.
