If you have a nonbose system. Here are a few to look at:
Kicker KS65
Alpine Type S
Zapco I-602
Diamond
Image Dynamics

If you have bose you can't just change out the speakers without changing out the radio. Bose systems use low impedence speakers and just trying to change them is not reccomended.

If Monsoon the above applies somewhat. Monsoon speakers are bi amplified so just changeing speakers is posible but you will loose alittle bit.

Putting new speakers in your car will not do very much for you unless your current speakers are blown. The way the speakers are wired stock do not lend themselves well to aftermarket speakers. Best course of action is to buy a cheap 4ch amp and wire em up that way.

I have the non bose system, and they arent blown they just dont sound that good. I am looking to put new speakers in that will have a nice little hit to them and that sound nice and clear. I was thinking about putting a amp in, but how much wiring and work is it to put one in?

Its not that hard to do. The hardest part will be running the power cable from the battery to your amp, and thats not even hard, just a little time consuming. As far as just putting in new speakers with your stock system, youll THINK they sound better because you spent money on them, but they probably wont. Youll be amazed at how good speakers can sound when they are powered by real amp. HOWEVER, if you put 4 new 6 1/2" speakers in you might lose some of your low end because I know at least on my 97 system, the sail panel speakers are kind of like 6 1/2 mini subs...guess you would call them mid bass drivers. Anyways, be aware of that potential. Throw a sub in a stealthbox and that problem is solved though

Just depends if he has monsoon or not. If he has a base model cd player with four speakers it not the same as with the monsoon. Also bass is going to be dependent on the speakers he chooses. If he goes with pioneer or sony explode for example he might get a decrease in bass and the high frequencies will sound slightly better. If he goes with Zapco or Image Dynamics they have better bass response but sound flat in the upper frequencies without an amp. Here is what I would do. And changing the factory CD player is up to you, it will work either way. I would get the best speakers I could afford in the front doors weather they are coax or componets. Get an ok set for the sail panels. Find a quality three channel amp to run the front doors and a sub. Run the rears off the radio as rear fill. Get a stealth box and a single 8 or 10 for the pocket area. Here is an example using Kicker product.

Kicker KS60 for front doors
Kicker DS60 for rear panels
Kicker CVR 10 in stealth box
Kicker ZX550.3 to run everything

Eintire system including Kicker wire and labor from a reputable shop should be under a grand. Might even be able to a new radio as well in undr a grand.

I've been demo'ing 6-1/2" door speakers the last week or so. Listened to everything from $40 Pioneers to $1000 a set audiophile stuff. By far the best sounding set I've heard was a set of Polk Momo MMC6500 component speakers at Tweeter's today. You can pick them up off of ebay for about $175 delivered, they were $300 a pair at the store. You really need to listen and see what sounds best to you because not everyone likes the same flavor. The improvement will be far better if you install even a modest amp of 30 watts RMS per channel. I highly reccomend you listen to a set of these at Fry's or Tweeter's. Very detailed and warm sound. Just blew away anything else I've heard at anywhere near the price point.

Regards, Michael

Absolutely agree with you. The MMC6500's are excellent speakers IMO. I think they would be just phenomenal with about 125 watts going to them. I listened to a few different speakers myself and found that almost regardless of price, those polks sounded the best. Didnt go much above 500 for a set, but still.
