Need help with new Pioneer head unit.

I replaced my factory Delco Loc II with a Pioneer, using the Scosche wiring connector. Everything seams to work fine on the Pioneer, but no speakers. Whats the deal? The back of the Scosche wiring connector said you also needed a Fai-3 adapter for Bose systems.http://www.gadgetpros.com/scfa4lecopr.html? Do I have to have this? I have a 95 Z28 with the Delco Loc II system with Bose speakers. I posted this in the car audio section too, just have got no responses yet.

I don't have experience with GM's version of the Bose system, but as long as all of your wires are hooked up correctly, then you shouldn't have a problem. One thing is that if it has an external amp, that also has to be hooked up correctly (most Bose systems do have an external amp).

It does have the external amp for the rear sub. But I figured the wiring harness should have this hooked up.

Re: Need help with new Pioneer head unit.

I tend to shy away from wiring harnesses, as they usually cost about 10x what it costs me to make my own. Of course, my own won't have the spiffy plastic connector, but I never really worry about that. Another reason is that half the time I have gotten a wiring harness, I've had to go and rewire it anyway. Take a good look at the schematics and decide whether or not the instructions really are as good as they say. I know that when I did the Bose system in my wifes Mazda, it was a REAL pain, and there were several wires where 3 had to be combined into one.

Yes you need it to turn on the external amp or you can re-run all the speaker wires from the head unit to the speakers like I did for better sound quality. If you use the the pioneer with out running new speaker wire and use the harness', it is actually giving the amp to much signal and you will lose signal and "confusses" the amp which in turn creates it to sound unclear. I recommend running new, you won't regret it and it will sound awsome but you still need the harness to run the sub. I took my sub out after I did mine and noticed really no difference, just my $.02 Good luck

Re: Need help with new Pioneer head unit.

So i would be better off just running my own speaker wire to all the speakers? Will this still be going through the external amps? Will this sound as good as the factory setup? I may just use the wiring harness and just run the speakers straight to the Pioneer? Does that sound right? Thanks. If you need the wiring harness to run the sub, would my sub come on when I have the harness plugged in? I had no speakers whatsoever come on when I plug the Pioneer in with the harness.

Re: Need help with new Pioneer head unit.

In the typical Bose system all of the speakers are run through the external amp. However, this amp is usually fairly low powered. For all the hype Bose has for itself, I've found that many times a good aftermarket signal processor and speakers will outperform the bose systems(this goes for home audio as well). You can just run wire from the head unit to the speakers... and then it will function like a normal system. This will cut out the Bose amp, but as I said it is usually relatively low power.

The stock setup sounds good to me. I just want to replace the head unit, because its going out. May just end up running new speaker wire .
