couldn't agree more i have had this one for years and really love it. not many false alarms and gives a damn good warning time and is pretty much always right on the money. after using this cheap one and actually have awesome results i would never buy a better one i dont really see a need to.

Another satisfied V1 owner checking in. Everyone always b!tches and moans about the times magazines get out of car tests, so what makes you beleive a radar detecter test is any different? The V1 does have a lot of false alarms in the city, but you can mute the X ban frequency in the city and that usually takes care of it. I travel via interstate about 35k miles a year going to races, and the V1 has never let me down.

As stated earlier no radar detecter will completely save your ***. But common sense, watching for brake lights on the horizon and traveling behind a group of speeders will generally keep you safe from the law. Having a good detecter is just another tool in the speeders arsenal, and the directional arrows give you the added edge. It really helps knowing if the officer is up ahead or creeping up from behind through traffic. After owning one for a while, I almost can't drive without it.

I tested both and would prefer the V1 anyday over the 8500..

The V1 had better range and answered the all important "where" question...

The 8500 had less falses but didnt have the range and just didnt let ya know anything other than slow down.. I expect more from my radar..

I tested both on long road trips along with a month of my usual driving in town..

Do you really mean you tested both or simply have used both? There is a big difference. Did you borrow a buddy's unit? How did you get to use both?

Either way your comments are very helpful since few have probably had the opportunity to actually have experienced both to be able to compare.
