Monsoon Replacement Questions

I know this has been asked before and I did a seach but didn't get the answers I needed. I'm hoping that some of you stereo gurus can help an electronicly challenged F-Body guy out. Can I gut the whole thing and just get a really nice head unit that fits.(have been at Crutchfield looking) and four good speakers to have it sound good. What about a custom enclosure sub w/amp? What about the rear hatch speakers do I still need them?. I was thinking about a head unit putting out 60 RMS X 4 with the front and rear seat speakers and a seperate custom enclosed powered sub woofer for the back would be more than enough power for me. Any input on this would be great. I'm tired of replacing blown POS monsoon speakers

Re: Monsoon Replacement Questions

Well... I'm a bit electronically-challenged guy, too, but I think you answered your own question already.

Gutting the system = everything Monsoon out --> everything aftermarket in. That's they way I understand it.

Re: Monsoon Replacement Questions

Start by removing all of the POS Monsoon system. Keep it so you can return the car to stock or sell it all to help pay for the new gear.

All you need for a high quality install are the following...

* A quality HU with all the features that you need. MP3 compatability, CD changer controls, crossover controls, etc.

* A good set of 2-way component speakers in the doors.

* A subwoofer (or two).

* And an amp (or two) to power everything.

If you feel that you just have to have rear speakers you can always add them later on down the road. Click my sig below to see my car's setup. It's a simple 3 speaker system (door speakers and subwoofers) with two amplifiers. I don't use any rear speakers at all yet I still have people asking me what kind of rear speakers I have. Sometimes I have to pop off the grills just to prove to them that there aren't any.

Thanks for answering my questions. That F-body audio site looks good
Anyone else have any comments they would like to make?
