Monsoon Amp - Where is it?

First of all, greetings. I'm a newbie here and this is my 1st post.

I just bought a 98 Z28 convertible and I want to update the speakers. I know there are better HUs out there but I'm cool with the stock unit. It works OK and I like the stock install compared to the aftermarket. However, I've read verious things about the monsoon system, all bad. Hell, I'm not even sure I have the monsoon! This is the HU I have:

If indeed I do have the Monsoon (I'm pretty sure I do), I'm considering ripping out the stock amp and speakers and installing aftermarket replacements. Can anyone tell me where I can find the amp? Also, any thoughts on what I'm trying to do?

Cheers!

The POS Monsoon amp is in front of the spare tire above the rear wheelwell. It's mounted to a plastic panel and is on the fender side of that panel.

Yeah... what he said. Here's a picture that could help. It's hidden up and to the left of the power antenna in the picture. You can see the black plastic panel that RULZ mentioned.

On my 2002, the HU says Monsoon right on the display... about where your picture shows the "Delco" of Delco Electronics.

Congrats on your new car! I'm pretty sure you do NOT have the Monsoon system. You don't appear to have a CD player! Do you have a changer in the back? And Monsoon systems, as stated above, have Monsoon logos on the HU.

Re: Monsoon Amp - Where is it?

I have to be honest and say that I'll have these answers after Friday. I bought the car but haven't picked it up yet. However, I think TransAmAbe has a point. I just did and ebay search for Camaro cassette players (since there's always a good selection of whatever was offered) and there IS a Monsoon cassette, but it does indeed say Monsoon with the little swirly icon. It appears I don't have a Monsoon! Cool... That makes upgrading a tad easier....

Re: Monsoon Amp - Where is it?

BTW, what is the difference in the stock HUs? The non-Monsoon and Monsoon seem ideantical outside the logo. Is it just that the Monsoon units tie in to the truck amp?

Just curious.
