First I would like to say my car is a 95 z28 with a 5 speaker OEM no aftermarket components bose cd player system.
With that said, I went to a sound specialty shop and they tried to sell me a head unit plus a converter that supposedly amps the speakers in a bose system. (not going to do that)
Went to Best Buy and they said I dont need a special unit to amp the speakers, I need to rewire all the speakers in the car. And that would cost me over $120 to do the custom wiring and install of head unit.
Now, I have installed many head units in past vehicles I have owned and I am no pro, but this whole ordeal has me complexed and I dont want to rip apart my dash/console until all my ducks are in a row. I just want to get a decently cheap Head Unit like a Sony 50w X 4 at walmart. But I really dont want to rewire every speaker. So what options do I have? I assume others have had this same problem and I would like to hear your opinions please.

Exactly what is an adapter harness as I have always stripped wires and connected in the past? If I go to walmart and get this harness, a head unit, and then hook the ACC power and Antenna wire together on the adapter harnes, will the head unit and speakers work? Will the Sub in the driverside trunk work with an aftermarket head unit? Is there anything I have to do to make it work as I am sure that the RCA jacks that are built in to most aftermarket head units will not adapt to the sub?

I have a '92 Z-28 with the Delco Bose Gold Series . I pulled out the head unit , replaced it with a Pioneer DEH47 and adapter harness . Then I bypassed all the Bose amp's thats on the speakers to let the Pioneer drive them . Sounds great . Only drawback is Bose speakers are rated @ 2 ohm's . Makes the Pioneer head unit work twice as hard .

You just need to get the deck. then get the bose adaptor like the sales person said. It wires in just like any other wiring kit. It just has a box with asjustment pots on it. You don't need to worry about the power of the radio because its going to be cut down by the converter anyway. You are using the converter box to step the power from the aftermarket head unit down to a useable signal the bose amp can use. You also must remember to hook the blue remote wire up to the blue on the wiring kit. This wire turned the factory amp on and off with the radio. If you don't hook it up you will get no sound. If you try to hook the radio up with a traditional gm harness your volume really loud at a very low volume. Hope this helps.
