Linear Actuators

I want to make a custom enclosure for my amp so it stops screaming "STEAL ME STEAL ME"

Anyway i want the enclosure to incorporate some 12V linear actuators, but after some searching all i've found are very expensive, extremely overkill actuators. The thing would only need to lift 10lbs tops. Does anyone know a place that sells pretty small, 6 to 12" travel linear actuators?

Re: Linear Actuators

i have 6 actuators on my setup in the new project. i searched for months and finally broke down and just bought some from autoloc which essential outsources them through another company like most do. the problem i found is they are all around the same weight supporting and price fluctuates only a few dollars. similar to standard hood shocks/struts and hatch shock/struts as well that aren't adjustable and still cost an arm/leg.

i wish i had a lead for you but i couldn't find one after searching many forums and websites. if you do find a place please post up as i'd like to know myself.

Re: Linear Actuators

Nice looking setup man. I'll definitely drop you a line if i find one for a good price. Jeez all these things consist of is a 12 volt electric motor, a couple gears, and a teethed metal tube.

Maybe i could just rig up a ghetto pulley system.

Re: Linear Actuators

honestly i'm certain you could build one if you have some time and a little electrical experience to fab something up. i agree these things are extremely overpriced indeed but people keep buying them an unfortunately i wasn't an exception. i tried to find a decent alternative but it just didn't work. i wish you luck.
