Line out convertor install

I am trying to install a LOC in my 97 Camaro. I need to know which is the positive and negative wires on the back speakers. I found something on the net with the colors, but they don't match whats on the speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Shawn

If you have the Monsoon system and you're trying to tap the back hatch 4" speakers, that's NOT a good idea. They're HP x-over by the Monsoon amp and you will NOT get a full range signal for your amp.

The BEST place to install a LOC on the Monsoon system is directly behind the HU so you can get the signal BEFORE it gets to the Monsoon amp.

Go to here to read all about it:

Thanks for the reply, but this is not the monsoon system. Does the standard system still have the HP filter? It sounds like if anything the speakers have a LP filter which is what I would want anyway.

I personally always go behind the radio. This way you can get the 12vs wire for the remote lead while your back there. Then you dont need to re-run everything when/if you decide to install a deck in the future...

www.installdr.com has the wirining diagram. Instead of going behind the back of the HU, you can just disconnect or tap off the rear hatch speakers. It would be easier.

Paul, you do know that the back hatch speaker of the Monsoon system are HP x-over by the amp, don't you? Tapping those speakers doesn't yield a full range signal, so if you're tapping them for a sub amp, it defeats the purpose.

Coon Doon, since you don't have the Monsoon system, then tapping the back seat speakers will be just fine...they not x-over, they should be full range.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

However, this is not the monsoon system. I tried looking up several websites and they all have the wiring for the monsoon system (the colors don't match mine).

The colors I have are:

RR - Tan and Red.
LR - Tan and White.

I also noticed that there is a 3" piece of red and black wire coming off each speaker and spliced with the other wires. Is is safe to assume the red is + and the black is - ?? I want to make sure I get this hooked up the correct way.

Also, just one other question. On my LOC there are 5 wires. Gray, gray w/black, black, black with white, and a solid white. I know the gray and black wires are for the speakers, but I'm not sure if they are + or -. Does the white wire go to 12V, or ground??

Thanks in advance!!

Shawn

the diagram from installdr shouldn't be for the monsoon system. It's just a general GM wiring. There shouldn't be 12v wire going into it. A remote wire might be on it and that would be a 12v source. But the other wires should be pos/neg left and right.

The black is ground. It's supposed to help elimante noise if any is present. I never use it tho.

white is left pos, white/black is left neg
grey is right pos, grey/black is right neg
