Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

Is the Kappa Perfect components that much better than the Polk MMC6500 components? Im going to be getting one of the two this summer and right now im leaning towards the Polks because of the price, but im still thinking, so any help would be awesome. Also, do you know of any stores that stock either of these two sets, cuz I would obviously like to hear them in person. Or does anyone in the Suburbs of Chicago have these?
Thanks guys!!!

Re: Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

I don't know if Infinity has gotten any better lately but in my experience their mid-woofers don't handle loud bass hits very well at all. And thats with them being high passed at 80Hz @ 18dB/octave. I haven't listened to any of the new Polks in quite a while. The Polk Mobile Monitor 6-1/2" components I've had in my Tahoe for the last 10 years are still some of the best speakers I've ever owned.

Does anyone wanna chime in who has first hand experience with these? Also, LS1Rulz, did your Polks require a break in time? I was reading some reviews of the Polks on Crutchfield and they mentioned a break in time. Is this normal with speakers or just with they type of materials used in the Polks?

Personally I think speaker "break-in" is a lot of BS. My Polks have sounded great since the day I bought them. If there was ever any kind of "break-in" needed I sure never noticed it.

Re: Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

Between those two I would get the Polk. I sell Infinity and I think those are some of the worst components I sell. They have zero bass response and the tweet is not very pleasing to my ear. I would buy the regular Kappa components any day over the perfects. I have heard the Perfects in many install and have never liked them. I don't sell Polks but have installed a few and thought they sounded pretty good.

Alright, thanks for the replies guys. Also, does anyone know if the Polk Crossover is too big to fit under the seat? Or where are some other good spots for it, it seems kinda big from pics ive seen.

I install them both at work. The polks sound way smother and nicer in general in my opinion. The crossover will fit under the seat or in the kickpanels

Re: Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

I work at circuit city but we dont have them on display but we can get them through accomodation as employees and many of the people here have them we have 2 different people with kappas and 6 people run momos. The kappas are way too bright for my prefences as well as many peoples at high volumes where as the polks are much smoother. I am in palatine, illinois I could probally get you a listen to the momos I just gotta talk to someone there I currently run DB's as my door depth wont accomodate momos

Momos will fit fine in the doors with room to spare.

Re: Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

If I remember correctly there was an article in Car Sound magazine several years ago that compared the T/S parameters of several different subwoofers before and after extensive break-in time. They found that a "broken-in" woofer's frequency response only extended 1 to 2Hz lower that it did before it was broken-in. Anyone that can hear the difference between a sub that can go down to 25Hz and one that can go down to 23Hz has MUCH better hearing than anyone I know.

Re: Kappa Perfect vs Polk MMC6500

Well since the cone of a subwoofer travels a lot more than the cone of a mid-woofer I would think that if anything needed "breaking-in" it would be the suspension of the subwoofer. And since the test pretty much proved that there wasn't anything to gain by breaking-in a subwoofer I would think that the same would go for a mid-woofer.
