Cool Just Installed e3.6 6.5" subs in my TA

Well, the forum crapped out on me and I lost my previous post

Second try....

About 2 weeks ago, one of my sail panel subs blew out. It did not take long for the consistent thud/splat/fizzle/fart of a blown speaker to grow tiresome. So, researched online and found a lot of help here https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=495784 and
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/stereo...ed-eu700s.html

After my research, I ordered a pair of Elemental Designs D4's from http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...products_id=33 which are on sale now for $39.95. I also bought some longer sheet metal screws and some black 3/16" foam board (sold at hobby stores). They arrived a few days later and I dropped them in last night.

Driver's Side
This one dropped in no problem. No spacer needed. The cavity is deep too (~3.75") so I decided not to drill a vent hole in my car as the speakers have a 3.5" installed depth. Would they sound better if I did? Maybe, but I am not going to find out. Since T/A's came stock with dual voice coil speakers, I decided to reuse the factory connections which made the job very easy. I just cut them off the stock speaker and connected the red wire to the red terminal and the black to black on both coils. The e3.6's have nice spring loaded terminals to slide the wires into. Yes, I would have a little better sound quality if I had soldered the wires, but I wanted the convenience to easily go back to or change the speaker out. I reused the stock mounting holes/clips and my longer screws and the job was done. I did have to trim the bottom tab on the sail panel that holds the grill in to get it all put together. I will say that I do not think it would have fit at all with a 1/2" spacer in my car.

Passenger Side
This one was just about the same except I needed to make a 3/16" spacer out of my foam board to keep the speaker from interfering with metal ridge located in the cavity. Why my car is not symetrical I don't know. Anyway, it bolted right up after that. I will say to be careful with the mounting tabs for the screws. It is easy to knock one off and then it falls down in your car somewhere and then you will have to use one of the long magnets to get it back out. I ended up pinching them with pliers to give them a tight grip.

Testing
It sounded great in my garage last night and I took advantage of my hour long commute to listen critically to the new speakers. Personally, I think they sound great and easily eclipse the stock components. I played several of my favorite CD's (Burden Brother's, Audioslave, Default) and was able to turn it up louder before I got distortion (note that I have a stock Monsoon head unit and all other speakers are stock). Keep in mind that these are little 6.5" woofers and they will not hit like a 10".

Verdict
Do it. You will not be sorry

Did you glue any closed-cell foam inside the sail panel, behind your ED subs to smooth out the sound?
