Re: which infinity speakers to use

Not sure about the rear seat area speakers, as related to the infinity brand. But the guys over @ LS1tech.com suggested the 62.7i's for the front door.

I, on the other hand, just converted the 2 ohm Monsoon speakers system over to a 4 ohm JBL set-up. Where I used the GTO605c(doors) and the GTO636(rear seat) and installed a pair of GT42's in the rear hatch area. This set-up is rated right around the 100w area. Due to the use of the Monsoon amp to some degree. Althro, the system does sounds pretty decent, now w/ the Pioneer DEH-P3500 AM/FM/XM (4 channel/50w) HU. I still may swap out the 3-way 636's, in the rear seat to another pair of components and just not use the tweeters. As the 3-ways(aren't really recommended, either 2-ways would 've been a better choice for the mid/subs) really do not put out like I'd like 'em to be. Course, I still need to play around w/ the HU settings alill more to see if, I can get any better sound out of the 636's.

Hey, while we're @ it, I need to know which of the stock 6.5in speakers are in the sail panels(rear seat area)??? Like I've stated above I repl. all of 4 of the 6.5's. Now, I have a guy wantin to buy the stock Monsoon sail panel speakers. But since, the local auth. JBL dealer performed the swap. I have no idea which pair is which. Lookin @ the back of the speakers one pair has a double set of connections. While the other pair only has the one set of connections. So, what pair is it that came out of the rear seat area??? Beside the driver's side door speaker was blown. Which is why I performed the swap in the 1st place. So, I wouldn't want to send hime the wrong pair of spks.

Good luck,
Don

I think you will have to go with the reference series. Unless something has changed you cant use the kappa series because the tweeter sticks to far out. Another thing to consdier is loosing that crappy monsoon amp. You are much better off running your speakers off you HU. I dont know if you are looking for componets or reg 2 ways but i highly suggest the polk DB componet series. Thats what i have all the way aorund and it sounds great.

Re: which infinity speakers to use

Make sure your Infinity speakers have plenty of clearance in front of them if you mount them in the factory door baffles. I used to have a set of Infinity speakers that blew because there wasn't enough room between the front of the speakers and the back of the door's trim panel. On loud bass hits thay would slam into the door panel. This caused the mid-woofer's cone to separate from the voice coils. To get around this problem I made my own set of baffles that lowered the speakers 1/4" deeper into the door.

I eventually got rid of the Infinitys because they could not handle loud bass hits without breaking up real bad. And that was with the signal being high-passed @ 80Hz @ 18dB/octave.

The speakers with the double wire set up are the front ones. They also look like speakers normally do as to day they have more than just the woofer. The rear speakers are just a woofer and have only one wire connection.
