Hu's with a built in hdd?

I'm looking to upgrade the hu in my 01 z28. I don't really have room for a cd changer since the trunk in that thing is so small. I used to have a Sony MEX-1HD but sold it to my friend because I needed the money. I want another hu with a hdd. I liked the sony but the sound quality wasn't the best, the only other 2 I could find were by Pioneer DEH-P90HDD and an Alpine HDA-5460. Which of these three would be the best choice? The Sony doens't have the feature to burn mp3's to the hdd but as far as I can tell the alpine does, not sure about the pioneer though. Thanks.

Have you considered getting a nice clarion or eclipse head unit and then buying an ipod?

That's another idea. How's the sound from those? Are the new Ipods like the old ones where after like 12 months the battery dies and you have to send it back to get the battery replaced?

No, the new batterys are much better and the sound quality is very good. Ipods will play some pretty crazy bit rates and file formats. Like OGG. Plus you can take your music with you that way.

Well, I just bought a complete 3rd gen 10gb Ipod for $200 shipped with all accessories. I'll probably use my hu for a little while, but I do want to upgrade it. And for the first time, I want something flashy. I also want good sound quality but don't mind paying for it. $250+or-$50 is probably the pricerange.

Congrats. Eclipse and Clarion are great headunits and offer some great features for a decent price.
