how to wire subs and amps (ohms)

If I get the rockford hx2 series sub, which has dual voice coils, could I run the sub on one ohm if I had the correct amp, like the memphis 1100D? Also, if I get the rockford 1000.1 amp, how would I wire that to the sub, in series or parallel? Thanks

I did some research and I think I found what I wanted to know. If I have a dual 2-ohm DVC sub, and I wire it in parallel, it can take a one ohm load right? Let me know if I have the right idea. Thanks guys

Yes, dual 2ohm VC's in parallel equals a 1ohm load.

Check out the tutorials at JL Audio's web site for diagrams and descriptions of various wiring options.

Okay, now that I have that figured out, I have a more specific question. Does the 1000RMS rating on the rockford 1001BD amp need 14.4V to get that much power? And if so, how would I get that much power?

The 14.4v comes from having your engine running. When the engine is running the alternator provides all of the juice to the rest of the car. Not the battery. The alt has to put out more voltage than the battery or otherwise the internal resistance of the battery itself would prevent it from ever accepting a charge. If the alt only put out 12V the battery would never charge.

Thanks. I always thought that to get 14.4 volts would need a second battery. So what size alternator would you reccomend for two 1000w amps. Would a 140amp alternator work good? Thanks man

Most 4th gens came with a 140amp alternator stock. Check your codes in the glove box.

Also, I don't think I've ever seen a stock electrically setup 4th gen put out 14.4V while running.

I usually get around 13-13.2V at idle and no more than 13.6V while cruising, with my 140amp alt.

I believe they switched to 105 amp alts in '98

i upgraded the wire from the alt to bat, and bat to ground, and i hit 14.4 at idle.

Wow! What gauge wire from the battery->alternator?

Yeah, I would like to know too. It only has about a 4gauge wire stock doesn't it?

I have a 96' and it came with the 105 verison. You know, I'm really beginning to wonder which is which. Maybe just the V8's came with the 140? Anybody?

AFAIK, all '94-'97 LT1s came with the 140 amp. Don't know for sure about the V6s, it was probably an option but not standard.

So, rthompson, will you please tell us more about what you did to get 14.4V at idle?
