How to mount amp on 'hump' in TA?
I have a 95 TA and have an Alpine amp on the 'hump' behind the rear seat. How do I secure it to the car. I heard that there is very little clearance between the gas tank and this hump. I plan on building an amp cover out of MBF board with a 'speaker grill' cover for directly over the amp for air circulation. Does anyone know how to secure all this without messing up the interior to badly?? Pics would be nice too!!
Thanks.
Thanks.
I'm an installer at a shop and we use hot glue and silicone to put a piece of mdf under the carpet and then screw the amp into the mdf. DO NOT drill or screw anything on the hump because that is the gas tank. What I mean by using hot glue and silicone is that we put big piles of hot glue and silicone on the hump under the carpet and put the mdf down on that. The hot glue hold the board still for the silicone to dry, once that silicone dries that board isn't going anywhere. You can cut the board just big enough to screw the amp on it and cut the carpet just past the board and you will be able to run your wired under the carpet and your wired will be totally hidden until they come out of your carpet into your amp to make it alot cleaner. I hope this helps.

Yea you definately don't want to screw into that gas take. That would be a VERY costly mistake!!! Infact I wouldn't even mount it there...everyone in the world can see it and steal if they want, try where the spare tire is.
The carpet the cover that rear hump can be lifted up. Lift it up and use nuts and bolts to secure the carpet to the amp's "feet" (or however your particular amp mounts) This is hold ya in place until you get that amp rack built!
An idea that worked well in my old Firebird was using the mdf, but instead of gluing it, just cut it so it wedges between the wheelwells. If it is a tight fit it's not going anywhere. Worked well for me for 2+ years. A little less permanent as well.
i just wrapped a board in the same color carpet and screwed the amps to it the board never moves
but ill be moving the amps to the back wall but now that i fried my 4 channel
i got 2 2 ch doing the speakers on the rear deck and prolly put the monoblock for the sub on the back wall

If you are not worried about them getting stolen, you ever think about using some velcro strips? I'm surprised I never hear anyone mention this. Just go to Wal-Mart and buy some velcro strips, they were in the cloth textures area for like 2 or 3 dollars. Stick one on the back of the amp and one on the hump carpet. I used that method before and it held like a champ. Plus it's easy to take out the amp if you need to and the velcro strips came right off the carpet with no residue or visible damage.
do it like mine... (in sig) i have a small peice of wood under the carpet to screw it into... just get tint and/or a thin carpet to put over amp(i have a thin black peice...
i have tint on back also... that helps...

Well I've had my stereo equipement stollen twice on me, and from then on I have made it a pain for anyone to steal my stuff. I say at least hide the amp, leaving it in the open just calls for some 14 year old to throw a rock through your window and make a quick grab and go. I can gaurantee no screws will hold down long with a prybar and some wire cutters. Amps are exspensive and the insurance won't give you crap for money if its stollen. I have my two amps in the spare tirewell bolted down very securely, plus there is still room for the tire, I have had no overheating issues either. The only bad thing is if my car gets T-boned then those amps are done.
