I was wondering how hard is o change factory HU (Bose), to Alpine. I went to my audio shop and the wanted $80 for instalation it is work it or jus do it my self.

$80?! Wow, definatly do it yourself. You'll need a kit to make it fit where the stock deck was. You'll also need a GM wire kit to adapt (can't think of any of the words today) the wiring harnesses together. Match the colors on the wires and slap the cd player in there.

It's not that hard, but if you really don't know what you're doing, get someone else to do it for you.

Just go to any bestbuy / circuit city / etc. & pick up the 1 din to .5 din radio installation kit to match your year car. Along with a GM wiring harness again to match your year car. Then match color to color stripe to stripe of the new GM harness you just bought and the harness you got with your headunit. Typically for a secure setup you'll want to solder, if you dont have a iron/gun then just twist ends, and cap off, then tape. One last thing, you'll probably need an antenna adapter to go from a mini to a standard. (I had to)

And yes, most likely you'll need an antenna adapter. Check your new head unit first. Does the antenna out have a wire coming out of it? With a male end on it? Mine did. If so, you will need a male into female adapter, however some just have a hole in the back (no wire) and you will just need the little extension antenna adapter.

 

what stereo do you have now? is it bose?
If it's bose you need to get something to step-down the signals since the speakers are already amplified

If not- you need a mounting kit ~$15
and a wiring harness as well $10-15

Besides that all you need is about an hour or 2 of your time, it really isn't hard, match colors, and either solder or shrink wrap the connections. You can be ghetto and just use electrical tape, but I wouldn't recomend it.
