How do I test an amp that isn't installed in a car?
How do I test an amp that isn't installed in a car?
My sister's old car had an MTX 4 channel amp that is 3 years old in it. The fuse and holder on the power wire both melted and fried the PCM in the car. Needless to say the amp isn't going back into the car, but it did work when the fuse was melted. I want a way to test the amp so I can tell if it is still functioning properly(I plan to hock it on ebay), but I don't want to put it back into the car and risk more trouble.

Hook up a portable CD player for the signal source. Hook up some speakers. Connect the amp to a 12V power supply or a car battery with a pair of jumper cables. Jumper the 12V to the remote turn on lead of the amp to turn it on and see if you get any sound.
