Hooking up Mono subwoofer amp / 5th Gen / Monsoon
I ordered a stealth box, 10" 200W amp and a 10" sub. The amp has Line & speaker level inputs. What are the recommendations to hook up all this to a '99 TA with the Monsoon system?
thanks
thanks

You can tap the speaker leads right BEFORE the Monsoon amp, buy a line level converter and tap the wires coming directly out of the radio, or you can buy a PAC OEM-1 which will give you 2 pairs of RCA outs as well as an amp turn on lead.
Whatever you decide, DO NOT try to tap any of the wires right before the speakers. ALL speakers in the Monsoon systerm are x-over, so that's why you need to get the signal BEFORE the Monsoon amp.

Where is the Monsoon amp anyways?
What is the PAC OEM-1? I see its $50, is there any other alternative with my new amps line and speaker level inputs???
Thanks

The POS Monsoon amp is mounted to a plastic board that is right above the right rear tire. It is on the fender side of the piece of plastic.
The OEM-1 is a plug and play line output converter. It plugs directly into the factory wiring harness so there is no need to cut and splice any of the factory wires. If you don't mind cutting the factory wiring you can use the speaker level inputs on your amp.

Being that the speakers are front-rear and left-right, and the amp/sub is mono, which speaker should I pull the sound from? And if I were to take it from the rear speakers, would it be best to put in a line from each left and right speaker? And if I did that, wouldn't that ruin the stereo effect on those speakers?
Next, could I pull the sound from the sailpanel speakers, or is that a whole new beast being that they are supposed to be subs.
Is $50 about the cheapest you can get one of those PAC OEM-1 thingers?
Obviously I don't know much about installing amps and subs, and the monsoon sets me back a bit. I appreciate the help though.

Re: Hooking up Mono subwoofer amp / 5th Gen / Monsoon
The best thing you can do is eliminate every piece of the POS Monsoon system from your car. None of it is worth keeping.
You can tap into either set of front or rear speakers. It doesn't matter. The amp will sum the stereo signal to mono. Do not take the signal directly from any of the speakers. Take it from the back of the HU or where the signal enters the POS Monsoon amp. DO NOT tap the signal after the amp. Doing this will not ruin any of the stereo sound.
You can try doing a search for a lower price for the OEM-1 but I doubt that you'll find it any cheaper anywhere.

So just to clarify, which line(s) should I use:
1) Just one speaker line (either left or right) to the new amp
2) Splice the left and right together that are either front or rear at the amp
3) Stop being so cheap and get the PAC OEM-1
Thanks again

2) No. Do NOT splice any speaker wires together. You have right and left speaker level inputs on your amp. Use them.
3) Yes. I get the feeling you have no idea what you are doing here. Using the OEM-1 will make things easier. You may even want to let someone thats done this kind of thing before do it for you so you don't fry anything.
