Help with sound system options...
In the spring I was going to add a couple of things to my car...(Just to let you know, I like JL, so I'm gonna get a lot of their stuff, but I'm open for suggestions) First, I was going to get the stealth box, and a 10". (Also, I don't know that much about systems) Now, what is the difference between a 10w3v2 d4 and a d2? I was going to put maybe 250 or 300 watts up to it. I was also going to get 1, maybe 2, sets of the zr650-csi's. Now, I'm not sure about what headunit I want to get. I really like the Pioneer deh-p9600mp (but I don't like the $599.99). I like the red lights on my dash, so I was thinking about getting a headunit that lights up red, but I don't know if that would look stupid or not (probably)...Any suggestions? Also, would a 500 watt JL amp power the sub, and both sets of components without pushing it?
Re: Help with sound system options...
As for head unit. I have found Alpine and Eclipse to match my dash. The Newer alpines also have a selectable color between 512or so different shades of colors.
D4 or Dual 4 ohm is referring to the voice coils of the sub. You can wire a D4 sub to 8ohm or 2 ohm.
D2 or Dual 2 ohm can be wired to 4ohm or 1.
And no, a JL "500 watt amp" will not power a sub and 2 sets of components, unless of course you are referring to the JL 500/5, which could do so.... But would cost you a pretty penny.

Re: Help with sound system options...
If you don't like the 599.99$ price tag of your deck, you're going to absolutely hate the 800$ price tag for each pair of ZR components.
Just do a set of XR components up front, forget about the rears, and a 10W3V2 will fill in the low end nicely. If you absolutely must have rear fill, just get a set of TR650-CXI's in the back.
And the 500/5 retails for around 800$ as well. GREAT amp, just pricey. It'll run your system nicely though.

Re: Help with sound system options...
Wow! I didn't notice the price of the zr's. Now, if I don't put anything in the back (rear components), will it sound ok if you're sitting in the back seat?
Re: Help with sound system options...
Generally, if you ask anyone who's been at the car audio game for quite some time, rear fill really isn't worth having. Most people would rather spend the money for speakers on one amazing set of components up front, rather than splitting the budget between front and rears.
I.E if you're planning on spending 300$ for speakers, spend 300$ on one set of good components for up front, rather than 150$ for fronts and rears.
Make sense?
If yes, get XR's up front. They sound deadly with good power, and will keep up with most sub combos (Play loud and clean!).

If you do the front speakers right you'll never miss not having rear speakers. I have a simple 3 speaker setup in my car (front components and 2 subwoofers). Even so I still have people asking me what kind of speakers I have in the back. A lot of times I have to pop off the grills just to prove to them that there aren't any.
Re: Help with sound system options...
I have people in my backseats all the time (the most I've ever fit in it was 6...yeah, try and figure that one out). Usually, if I have anybody in the car with me, it's either one or two passangers...It seems like the XR's are good, so I'll end up buying a set of those, and one 10w3v2 in a stealth box...What kinda amp would I need to power all of this?
Re: Help with sound system options...
Even if you do have people in the back seat of your car, I'm sure they'll be more worried about losing their lower limbs due to blood starvation rather than the accuracy of your front soundstage.
Maybe I'm just selfish, but I couldn't care less if my back seat passengers don't get the same quality of sound as I do up front. And realistically, your backseat passengers are around 2 feet behind you. They'll hear plenty of the music coming out of the XR650's.
If you want to keep a JL theme going, get a 450/4. Run the two 75w RMS channels to the front speakers and bridge the 150x2 channels together to get 300x1 and run that to your 10W3. That will make for a very clean, very tight sounding system.
Just FYI, a single 10W3 isn't going to shatter any SPL records. It's a great sub for SQ and can dish out a fair amount of bass, just don't expect to be heard 5 miles away. A W6V2 would do a better job at that. I've also seen people do 10W7's in the stealthbox, and I'm sure that would give great output from a small space.

Re: Help with sound system options...
I wouldn't put a W7 in a stealthbox.. With that amount of space the W6V2 will do as good or better job for cheaper. You would be surprised how loud they can get.
Re: Help with sound system options...
Thanks for all the help guys. I've heard a hole bunch of different JL subs (10w0's, 10w3's, 10w3v2, etc...), I like the 10w3v2 because I don't like a lot of bass, but I do like some (mostly because I listen to country most of the time). Any other suggestions?
