Help an Old Guy out!
Hi All!
Its been a long time since I posted on this board so here it goes:
I own a 1993 Pace car that was at the track for indy....a cocncours ride around car. 1 of 125. So far in the 9 and a half years I have owned it I have managed to keep it some what stock down to replaceing the stock Goodyears with stock Goodyears.
Until this spring. The Bose system had blown an amp in the door and the head unit won't swallow a CD to save it's life. I surfed the net and found a few places that rebuild Bose. It would cost me around $375 all together.
A trip to Best Buy and my new Saturn VUE have much better stereos than the Bose could ever want to be.
Here is my question and I am looking for recomendations.
A head unit with CD for under $300.
Seperate speakers..tweeters and mid under $200 mid must fit inside door stock mount and tweeters on A pilliar
Maybe an AMP maybe 4 channel
Subs in back like a few on the great photos I have seen on this board--reason to go with 4 Channel amp.
Thank-you Roger

Werd. I currently have
Pioneer 7200
Fosgate Fanatic P 6.5 Components
Fosgate 500S
Fosgate 12" Hx2
I work (installer) at BBY. Thats why I chose was I did. Great discounts on everything, aside the sub, which we dont carry.
Anyway, I think it sounds damn good. Id really like to put a small 2ch on the fronts, but theyre doing ok right now. I have other priorities.
You can get a damn good deck for ~$300. Like above, I suggest Alpine, and of course Pioneer. Ive used many of either and have had most excellent results. As far as amps and speakers, again money and prefrence are gonna matter the most. I suggest heading to a local shop (other than BBY) nad having a listen to some of the non retail goodies they have to offer.
Also, and most important, this car sounds like its mint. Know youre installer. Ive worked with the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Be sure he knows what hes doing. Unless of course you plan on doig it your self. A job of this caliber, isnt exactly easy, nor hard. The componets will probably give you the most trouble. Everything else is fairly straight foreward. I reccomend getting some 'sail panel tweeter pods' a few members are producing. Making the tweets fit in the pillar isnt pretty, and there really isnt much room.

I agree with Red's brand recommendations. May I suggest the Alpine CDA-9811 for a head unit? It is BY FAR the best bang for the buck. It can be had for $245 brand new off the net or about $300 in your local store. And with 4-channel time correction, three sets of 4V RCAs, CD/CD-R/MP3 compatibility and a fully motorized faceplate....
..... it's unstoppable for that price!!!

I challenge ANYONE to find a better head unit for the same price.

Werd, Firebird. They just don't exist my man. That's the unit I would have suggested from Alpine for bang for the buck. Pioneer makes some nice units, but to get something that's breath taking be ready to drop atleast $500. I'll probably get a top of the line Pioneer, I just can't help myself with that cool display and smooth design
