Did you just buy the steering wheel or the whole steering column?

The thing is, there is a special ring in the steering column that completes the circuit from the steering wheel radio controls that I don't think is in the non controlled columns. You could look under your dash and see if you have a connector that comes out of the steering column that doesn't plug into anything, if so then you should be all set. If not, I think you're going to need the full column.
