Good, high quality setup??

Just wondering what would be needed to have a good, clean sounding system. I know a lot of people complain about the Bose systems in the LT1 camaros, but my dads sounds awesome and still works in his 96. It has great highs and a little base. What would it take to get something to sound that clear?

By the way, this would be for an 02 Camaro.

Thanks,
Erik

I guess you've never heard the old saying...

No highs?
No lows?
Must be Bose.

An after market system in your car consisting of a quality HU, component speakers in the doors, at least one 10" sub and an amp (or amps) will outperform the factory system any day of the week. And it will last a lot longer too. I use a simple 3 speaker setup like this in the Rascal and I couldn't be happier with it.

I think I looked at your stereo setup before I got mine done-in my 94 TA I have a stealth box with the same sub you have and a 800 watt Rockford Fosgate Punch amp powering the sub and the inside speakers (4 6.5" Polk Audios), and it sounds alright but not as good as I thought it would. Might be the way I wired it, or maybe my CD player might have something to do with it-just a $200 Kenwood.

Thanks for the input, just looking for something new in my new car

I used to use a Kenwood front end for my old setup. But when Alpine came out with Time Correction in their HU's I had to have it. Now that I've had it for a while I would never want to do without it. I think the time correction "completes" the system.

Re: Good, high quality setup??

It all starts with the HU. In the audio world, you get what you pay for. All of your clarity, power, range controll, and functionability start here.
For the fronts, I would definitely go with components v/s coax. Seperating the highs from the midbass will highly improve your front sound stage. As far as brands go.. Alpine, JL, Eclipse, CDT, Diamond, Focal, & Memphis are some of the top notch performers just to name a few.
The rear fill speakers are not as important, but again, you get what you pay for. If you go with a sub, match it up to what you listen to. Rock, classical, jazz.. go with a sealed box. This will give you a tighter, more accurate response. For rap, country, or hip hop, a ported box will better suit your needs for the extended lows. For competition or glass shattering dB's a 4th order bandpass or carefully tuned ported box is your best bet. Sizewise, the smaller the more accurate, the larger... well you get the picture..

Re: Good, high quality setup??

My system uses a pioneer deh-750, 4 kicker 2-ways, 1 kicker CVR10 sub in a sealed stealth box, and an old-school memphis 300x2 amp for the sub. Whole system cost me less than $900 installed and sounds WORLDS better than the 5-speaker bose that was in it. I'm a fan of surround-sound type sound so i like the rear fill.... front sound only sounds a little wierd to me. Very crisp and clean sound with enough bass to give me a headache after a little while so i'm very happy with it. Right now i'm running the 4 speakers off the HU, but one day i'm going to install a 4-channel amp to push them for even more powerful sound.
