good or bad idea?

i was thinking of upgrading my stereos in my tahoe and my camaro. i have a 95 tahoe. anyhow i was thinking of buying a single hu and using it in both vehicles. i talked to a dealer and he said they could get me the extra sleeve for this. the only thing is that i plan to get a hu with a motorized screen. good or bad idea? right now i am completely stock audio in both rides. actually just put a lift on my hoe so it may be a bit befor i get to this but i thought i would ask.

Bad idea...

Taking a HU in and out isn't as easy as just sliding it in and out; there's also plenty of connections. Plus the setting used in each car will be different. To me... it's just more of a pain in the *** move and it'd be better just just but 2 HUs.

I totally agree with 97 formula. Its a bad idea and i think it will cause unnecceasry ware on the unit. At the minuim you will have two things to hook up each time. If you have a good system then it will add alot more connections. Just get two HUs. Get a nice one and a used one. Put the nice one in the car u use the most and if you have a trip or something you can switch them. I just wouldent switch them on a weekly basis.

yeah well i have a situation where my camaro will be a once in awhile cruiser and my tahoe will be the daily. and of course the buell during the summer. the hu would probably stay in the tahoe more than 75% of the time. yeah i probably will not do this but i thought i would ask.

Re: good or bad idea?

It's possible. I run a winter truck and a summer car, and i used to use the same h/u for both. It was a once in a 6 month switch. Just get two harnesses for your radio, and install one in each. All you have to do is take the h/u out, and plug it into the other vehicle.

Granted, it's wear and tear, but just be careful and you shouldn't have a problem. The only pain will be setting the eq and time and all that jazz every time.

That can be solved with a 9 volt battery. Just hook it up on the constant when you switch and everything will be saved.

Re: good or bad idea?

i am really not too worried about saving settings and such. it will probably be in each vehicle for an extended period of time. its not like i would be switching daily. for the summer my tahoe will be parked. about 4 to 5 months, then the camaro will be parked about 7-8 months. i think if i am going to try this i am going to buy a cd hu and not the motorized dvd player i like. just to see how it works. also my camaro is completley stock and i am looking to kinda upgrade. should i keep all the stock speakers except for the 6x9 sub and try to fit a 10 in there or what. i know i could do a search

Re: good or bad idea?

Depends on what stereo is in there stock. Some of them are amplified seperate of the HU, and will not work with aftermarket units unless you buy a special harness. Others will be fine...
