Factory Bose System

Anybody still have the factory 5 speaker bose setup in their 4th gen?

I did a little research and found out the bose radio had some specific design characteristics to work with the speaker/amp combo and that retrofitting a head unit doesn't work quite right- the aftermarket alpine I have works but not right.

Any of you make the swap and have any thoughts?

Thanks

YUP....

#1: A 4 channel amp and mount it in the trunk
#2: 4 6.5" Speakers in Sail Panels and doors
#3: Then run all you speakers off of the amp

The cheaper option is to simply run new speaker wire from the head-unit & buy 4 6.5" speakers for he doors and sail panels

Bose Sucks

Well that's stage II Just wanted to get past the initial sticker shock

To the OP: The issue is that the BOSE System has amps at each speaker, but they are designed for a 1 ohm load, which is just odd for any standard speaker / HU

So you either have to replace the speakers and drive them off an amp, or change the HU and speakers and re-wire the speaker connections.

You can keep the Bose head-unit and use a PAC OEM-1 Line Converter. I had my Bose head unit powering my amps with a PAC OEM-1 for about 2 + years and it sounded OK, but to me the more I looked at it / listened to, the more an aftermarket head-unit made more sense, allowed for better control / features when you have re-wire anyways

I have the 5 speaker bose system in my camaro. After the cd player stopped working I put a sony head unit in and I had to rewire the back seat speakers so they are powered by the rear amp because aftermarket radios will not power 5 speakers. It sounds great and the trunk speaker really adds bass to the system.

You guys that want 2 12" subs in a Camaro are crazy. A single, good-quality 10" is plenty in a car that small! Your eardrums will blow out before you exceed what it can do. Unless you're participating in SPL competition, the only differences you get with 2 12" subs is more weight, more cost, and less space left available in the car.

Space??

We didnt by the car to go get groceries!!!

And yes the OLD bose systems suck. I have one in my 03 Chevy truck and wouldnt swap it out for anything. The CD player in my Camaro thinks about eating the CDs most of the time, so I dont even bother with CDs. I had a V-6 with the Bose Non CD player and had to rewire and use a aftermarket amp. Not looking forward to the rewire this time around, as I was a wee bit younger when I did it last.

I take my Camaro to the grocery store quite frequently. I also use it for road trips and tons of other stuff where having some space comes in handy.

Maybe you're younger than I am, and your parents do the grocery shopping?

When I bought my car it had an aftermarket Pioneer that worked perfect. I replaced it with a Sony and it worked perfect too. I don't know what you guys are doing different.
