Factory 12 disc cd changer

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a factory 12 disc changer for my car. I hooked it up today and everything seems to be fine, but I can't get the cd's to play. I took the cover off the changer and everything appears to be working fine. It's as if the radio isn't reading it or something. Ok, you can probably tell I have no idea what I'm talking about. Any ideas? Thanks

-Mike

Durring the '99 model year only some of the factory CD players had changer controls. Only the '99's with cassette decks came with changer controls. No one seems to know when durring the '99 model year that all of the CD players started coming with the CD changer controls.

So this means that the changer won't work with my car?

I added the factory 12-cd changer to my 1999 Trans Am Firehawk, and everything works great, first time. My car was produced in January 1999, and is Firehawk #C008. Production for model year 1999 began in August 1998, so my car was made about halfway through the model run. So, unfortunately, you probably have one of the earlier Monsoon HU's, that dont recognize the changer. Suggestions: check wreckers for another HU, and see if you can try it in your car, to see if it will work, or check eBay, and buy a later HU, from a 2000-2002 model car. Good luck.

For those who have a working factory CD changer:

Is there an AUX button on the head unit? How does the HU control the changer?

My 97 Trans Am was originally equipped with a cassette HU and CD changer (checked the RPO codes on the door). When I bought the car, the previous owner installed a CD head unit and the trunk mount CD changer was missing. I have the cassette HU, but it doesn't have an AUX button.

Trying to figure out whether the HU I have will control a factory CD changer. Trying to get the car back to "stock" - never mind the autocross stock class legal mods
