Question Do I have a monsoon system?

I have a 1997 Trans Am WS6 that I bought used 2 years ago and the head unit has separate bass and treble slide controls and it just says Delco Pontiac on the unit. My owners manual shows this unit and then one that has the EQ, and it says that this one has the 500 watt amp and 10 speaker system. It does not say this for my system. I took my spare tire out and I have a amp mounted where the monsoon amp is located and it is the same amp I see people selling on e-Bay for the monsoon system. I'm kind of confused if I have this system or not.

With everyone calling the monsoon a piece of crap somone should have an idea. I heard some of the early ones did not say monsoon on the head unit.

I have a 97 Z28 and my radio DOES NOT have monsoon on it and it is a monsoon system. I am assuming that your ta is basically set up like my z28. Remove the plastic trim that covers the spare tire. You should be able to see a pretty big size of plastic that will have the monsoon amp attached to the back of it,or you may be able to see the big bundle of wires wrapped by electrical tape.Hope this helps.

Also, If your car has speakers in the hatch are it is Monsoon. Cars equiped with the CD and not Monsoon had only four 2 way speakers.

Yes I have the amp behind the spare tire and there are two speakers one 4" and one tweeter, so am I to assume this is a monsoon and the head unit just does not say so on it?

Thanks for the info. I looked on my door and found the RPO #W55 which is monsoon w/CD and I had a local dealer print me a build sheet that confirms this code. The weird thing now is that it is a casette unit which is RPO #W54. So I am wondering if they screwed up when building the car. Also from what I have seen all the monsoon HU have the EQ mine has bass and treble slides.
