Did I do this right?

Allright, I redid my sound system and I was wondering if I went about this right... I know I should have done this before I bought everything but o'well....

In the doors I have ALPINE TYPE R 6 1/2" SPEAKERS SPR-17LP speakers
In the sail panels I have ever popular ED eu700s

I plan on running the alpines off of the monsoon amp. before when I was running the factory subs in the sails and the alpines, the alpines seemed very under powered. hopefully running just them off of the monsoon amp and not the subs, they will sound better.

Powering the eu700s, I have a JBL GTO75.2 II 2 CHANNEL amp. I'll run 8 gauge wire to the amp.

Here's a few specs on the components so you guys don't have to look it up

Alpines
• 250W Peak Power
• 50W RMS
• Frequency Response: 35Hz – 30kHz
• Multi-Layered Hybrid Fiber Cone
• Linear Drive Magnet Motor Structure
• Lightweight Rubber Surround
• High-Strength Steel Frame
• 1" Soft Dome Tweeter with Tuned Back-Chamber in Point Source
General-Speakers
o Frequency Response : 35Hz - 30kHz
o Impedance (Nominal) : 4 ohm
o Mounting Depth (in) : 2-3/4"
o Mounting Depth (mm) : 70mm
o Mounting Diameter (in) : 5-3/4"
o Mounting Diameter (mm) : 145mm
o Sensitivity : 87 dB/W/m

Subs:
Power Handling : 200/400 WRms

Elemental design recommended a RMS Power @ 12.5v : 2 x 100 @4 Ohm amp

Amp:
2 channel amp
PWM mosfet power supply
4/8 gage Pro style terminal block for power and ground connections
Heavy duty die cast aluminum heatsink
Plexy glass viewing window
Variable high and low pass crossover 32-320HZ
12 db per octave slope on crossover
12 DB bass boost
High low level inputs
preamp outputs
97 W x 2 RMS @ 4 ohm
290 Watts RMS @ 4 ohms
<1% THD distortion
Dimensions 11 5/8" L x 12 5/16" W x 2 3/8" H

Did I do good?

Get the POS Monsoon amp out of the equation and you'll be doing a WHOLE LOT better.

Just having the Alpine speakers alone connected to the POS Monsoon amp without the subwoofers isn't going to free up extra power for the Alpine speakers.

I thought if I took the two channels (subwoofers) out of the monsoon, then I could bridge the connection and raise the power going to the alpines?

Do you know for a fact that the POS Monsoon amp can be bridged or are you just assuming it can be? If it can't be bridged and you try to do so anyway you'll probably blow the amp. Which on second thought wouldn't really be a bad thing.

Regardless, I wouldn't use it if high quality sound reproduction is your goal. The POS Monsoon amp is nothing more than an over-hyped power booster. And a VERY poor one at that.

Lol... someone's really opposed to using the monsoon amp....

what do you have running your alpines? seeing how the reason I got them was because of your review on it, if I remember correctly

and how much did you pay for the trunk lid?

High quality sound is important to me and the factory system just doesn't cut it my book. A lot of people dog it by blaming it all on the speakers because they are blowing all the time. The speakers are just fine as far as OEM goes. It's the poor quality of the signal (LOTS of distortion) from the HU and amp that's at the root of the problem.

I had an MTX Thunder 4202 running the Type-R components. The hatch flap was made for me by Steve at SubThump. I don't think he makes them anymore though. It's been so long ago I forget what he charged me for it.

Allright... I will see what I can find in terms of amps... I will probably hook it all up with the monsoon and see how it sounds.... then I will realize it can sound better and get an amp...

Did you need to run a capaciter or a HO alternator with your set up? I have an optima yellow top, and i believe the lt1 alternator is rated at 140 amps..... I should be good, right?

Once again, IMHO, caps and optima batteries are a waste of time and money. If you have dimming lights on loud bass hits a HO alt is what you need. The only time your stereo even sees your battery is when the engine is off. Once the engine is running all the electrical needs are met by the car's charging system. The battery then becomes a load on the charging system just like the stereo system.

I must have got lucky and had a factory alt with a little higher output than what they advertise for an LS1. I never had any problems with my lights dimming when I had the car. I've heard the LT1's come with a 140A factory alt but I don't know that as a fact.

I wouldn't call Monsoon an "Amp", "POS" is better word for it. If you want it, I can sell you MTX Thunder 6152 very cheap, it's even more powerful then 4202:

It works great, but in rough cosmetic shape
