Convertible speaker replacement...

Hey guys, my car got broken into so I'm replacing things. I got a Pioneer Premier head unit (DEH-P960MP), a Pioneer Amp (6000 series 4-ch), Pioneer Rev series components in the door (work GREAT), and I just got a set of Pioneer TS-D170R 6.5" oversized rear speakers. Well I installed these in the car with the top up. When I put the top down, the hydraulics caught the magnet and twisted the entire speaker frame. I wrote in to Pioneer about this and am hoping for a replacement for it, as their directions say nothing about this causing a problem and on the box itself it lists correct stock size replacement for 93-99 firebirds. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I'm thinking of going to a different speaker with a slightly lower mounting depth. The D170R's depth was 2 and 11/16" and the set I'm looking at is only 1 and 3/4"... but I don't want to go down too far in quality.... Anyone else with a convertible who has changed the rear speakers let me know what you used and how it worked out for you...

thanks,

Jonota

I did the exact same thing not long ago when I stuck in some Rockford Fosgate speakers in mine. Good thing for me was I just went to Best Buy, asked the guy for some speakers for a 94Z28 convertible, he handed me these and that's what I took. When I crushed them, I took them back saying this is what your computer said would work and it was wrong, they gave me my money back and I got a pair of "shallower" speakers

I got a set of Kenwoods for less than half of what the Fosgates cost and they sound pretty good. I can get you the model number if you want. Just shoot me an email!

I got a pair of Pioneer's that were a little cheaper... they had all the same specs except they were 1/4" shallower, and I used 2 spacing rings on each side... I sent an email to the online place I bought them from but haven't gotten anything back yet... but it's only been 1 or 2 business days...

thanks for the help guys!
