Are used parts an option? With that small of a budget for a complete system, you might have to go with used stuff.

You are probably gonna want to buy everything from ebat too, to stay within your limits. For a head unit, get a used one, but a good used one. I would buy a new amp and sub for sure. JBL amps are awesome for the money. You can get a 600W amp for like $160. Then you can get a pair of 12s for like $130. They won't be that great, but better than nothing. I had a setup like that for a while, and it sounded okay.

For speakers, you will probably have enough money left to only buy a pair, so just get a set of door speakers.

check out the for sale section on www.caraudioforum.com for some good deals

Could you post a list of what exactly you got? $400 sounds way too cheap to have an entire system, even used. Hopefully you didnt buy the cheapest subs, speakers, etc... because most of those are worthless.

I have two of those exact REV speakers in my car. They sound great, but take more power than your average cheapo set. You are probably going to need an adapter to mount them. I'm not sure what the stock speaker size on the 98 is, but on my 94 they are 6 3/4"

As for Sony, I'm not a big fan of their amps or subs. Hopefully you got a good deal on it.

The head unit is pretty nice, I have always liked Pioneer.

If you do want subs later, you definately want to stay away from Sony for an amp.

Heya,

It sounds like a pretty good deal. Cam94Z28 is right though. Id stay away from Sony for a sub amp. You should be fine though with the one you got because its a 4 channel. Any amplification on your inside speakers is better than none. I would NOT get a Sony amp for subs though. They REALLY overrate their stuff.

The Pioneers seem to be a louder speakers that others in terms of highs. Make sure you turn the crossovers on your amp down a little. Get some midbass going thru them. You will want to get sub(s) in your car eventually though.

Pioneer is a good CD player. 5500MP is still relatively new. How are you going to do your wiring?

Mail me sometime or post on here how you plan on running your wires. Ill give you some advice on how you should run it (if you want my advice).

Yeah I plan on getting a second better amp if I get subs but for now this should do. Many people tell me the sony is not a very good amp but at the price I got it was a good value. I will probably pay someone to wire the thing up for me because I have no experience, patience or time. I think bestbuy might do it all for $150. Any suggestions on which amp and what subs would be a good value buy.

For subs.........check these out I got 2 of the AW100Q subs in my car w/a 500W Kenwood amp and it hits. I don't care what others say, this is a good brand. And that the year end close out makes for some great deals. Any of the models are good but what size do you want? Since ur poor now these are the deals!
10's i'd buy the AW1000X or what I have.
12's i'd want AW100T or AW1200X

DarcWun,
Ebay has some great deals on Audiobahn amps, both 2 channel, and mono block. You would need to choose an amp based on the subs you decide on.

As for subs, I'd need to know what type of music you'd be listening to, different subs are designed to produce different types of bass. If you listen to mostly rap, dance, techno, then you'd want more of an SPL sub. If you listen to mostly rock, metal, etc...You'd be better off with SQ(Sound Quality) subs. If you like a little of both, you'd want something in the middle, also known as an SQL sub.

Your music choices will also help decide what size, and number, of subs you should buy.
