Cheap replacement speakers?

I've got a 95 Z with what I think is the amplified Bose Cd (it says Bose on the CD player but I've heard it is not necessarilly the amplified Bose system). I've blown a couple of my speakers and want to know what i can replace them with (other than factory). Thanks,

Kyle

Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

If it is a Bose unit, then the ohms of the speakers will not match.

Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

Since you do not have seperate tweets on the bose system, and the amplifier is in the rear left cargo bay instead of piggybacked on each speaker, any replacement speaker will work. Just make sure that you connect the + to + and the - to -
your speaker wires should be as follows:
FL + tan FR + Lt Grn
- grey - dk Grn

LR + Brn RR + Dk Blu
-Yel - Lt Blu

Hope this helps

Post Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

I have a similar problem. I have a 1999 Trans Am with the Monsoon system. I've blown out the sailpanel speakers and I just assumed they were normal speakers. I bought some sony xplod 220w 6.5" speakers and they sound like crap. Turns out that the sail panels are the "subs" of the system. whatever.

So my system sounds like crap and now I'm hearing my front door speakers like they are blown. (I didn't do it, just bought the car and $50 speakers aren't going to hold me back from a good deal). So, would it be a good idea to put the sony's in the front panel and get 6.5" subs to put in the sail panel?

Also, I understand you cannot bridge the two sets of wires going to each of the sail panel speakers right. So is there any work around to be able to use all the POWER that the mighty monsoon amp puts out instead of using half?

Thanks

Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

normal aftermarket speakers are generally 4 ohm voice coils. Monsoon is not. putting non monsoon spks on a monsoon system will eventually blow amp or spks or both, plus not sound good to begin with. Either buy replacement monsoons at like $70 a pop or replace radio, bypass amp and use what ever speakers you want.

Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

Re: Cheap replacement speakers?

Actually I just looked at the two speakers I took out of the sailpanels and its says "4ohm/4ohm". So does this mean its ok to put aftermarket 6.5" subs in it?
