CD player problem

I have a 95 Z28 with the stock Bose stereo. I replaced the Bose CD player with an Alpine. It will play the radio fine, but not CD's. The head unit reads the CD, but no sound comes out. I don't have the remote wire connected to anything, because I don't know what to connect it to. I'm stumped, has anybody done this before. Thanks guys
