Can I do this?

I don't like really loud systems all the time, but I'd like to have it incase I need it. This is what I wanted to do. I wanted to get either 2- JL 10w0's or 10w3's, but I wanted to put the amp on a switch so I can turn the subs on rather then having them on all the time. I know it sounds stupid, but can it be done? Or, is there a better way of doing this?

Yes, it can be done. All you have to do is place a switch inline with the sub amp's remote turn on lead.

Ya just like it was said in the previous post, you can put a switch on the 12v turn on lead to the amp. If you also have a decent head unit thats fairly new (Kenwood Xceleon 617 is what I have) I have all the freq settings and bass settings; everything that lets you control all the speakers but it also has what your asking about. Its call NF ON/OFF. Mines built into the head unit, I just put Non Fader on off if I want the subs off.

I have it in my car, I just ran the remote turn on wire to a switch this way when its off the amp doesn't know that the radio is on. Usually my system is on all the time but i like it for the highway when the top is down (can't hear much with a convertible) and when girls come in my car and want to play sappy girly music and I don't want everyone to see me in my car and hear that i'm playing girly music on my system..ha ha ha
Good luck though, its super easy, you should have no problem.

Like stated above if you have a fairly new head unit it will have a setting you can use to turn them on and off. I have the Pioneer 8400 and it has that feature for 2 subs.
