Bose system expansion

I've got a 96 Z28 w/the stock Bose system.

I'm wondering, can I, or is it possible to expand the rear subwoofer compartment there and just fit in a larger woofer?

Also, is it possible at all to modify a the stock deck to play MP3's?

Anyone with any experience in these areas?

Cheers
Adam

No, you need to replace the entire sub and sub amplifier. BOSE uses odd impedance drivers in it's systems. You can't just drop in any speaker.

No. You'll have to go with an after-market system to do that. Or get an FM modulator CD/MP3 changer and add it to the stock stereo.

Are all the speakers amp. or just the rear sub? If you have the rear sub. is it possible not to have the amp. Circuit city said if you have bose you have the amp. system. Best Buy said it was a option to get the amp and not every bose system has the amp now who is right??? Anybody know?

Every Bose system I've ever seen uses amplified speaker modules.

Bose does use wierd impendance. The fronts are wired at 4 ohms which is normal for cars, also makes it easy for replacing the door speakers should you want to.However the rears and sub (actually a mid-bass) are wired at one.Which absolutely screws you when wanting to replace or upgrade. You have to run new wiring for them.

So what happens when you run a 4 ohm speaker to the rear sub?? Ruin the radio or doesnt sound as good?

Since the impedance is higher than the stock speakers the output from the new speakers will be much lower.

I don't know the actual impedance. I just know that Bose uses oddball impedance speakers. Like I've said before, Amar Bose doesn't like people to mess with his designs.

Man that sucks, cause i replace my rear with just a 8 inch 4ohm speaker for a little more sound it was ok the I put a 10 inch in it sounded better. So all I would be doing is under powering the speaker.
