Bose speakers cutting out

My RS has a bose cassette player and today the right front speaker and left rear were shutting off and on randomly. Anyone else had a problem like this? What could cause it?

Just shy of you having blown those speakers, my guess would be that your HU is going on you. What I have learned about Bose car stereos is that the speakers are great, but their HU's suck.

if it was doing it while being played at high volume the speakers have built in crossovers and cut out so they dont blow

Actually if I turn it way up it causes them to turn on sometimes. It seems they go out more at the lower volumes.

Lightbulb Check the wiring...

Oh man, you gave me a flashback to the horrendous install I did on my system... I got 4 Fujitsu eclipse sattellites, a Kenwood 859 Excelon head unit, an amp, MTX thunderform, the works. It sounded great but it would cut out at random, with the sub still going, and sometimes wouldn't come back on for a couple hours. I checked everything. Then my dad discovered it by accident while he was tapping his feet listening to music while I was driving... every time he tapped, the speakers cut out.

It turned out to be a frayed wire about three inches to the left of the passenger-side kick panel. Check there, it might be the cause of your problem, since I know I had completely random, unexplainable and inconsistent sound cut-off before I fixed this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. As soon as I get my car back from the paint shop I'll check it out. Hopefully that's the same thing that's happening to me. It sounds great when the speakers are all on so I wouldn't think they are blown.

You're an idiot! Stop spreading information that is incorrect. The headunit doesnt have any chips which push speakers anymore then the factory non bose cd player. As a matter of fact it is basically the same head unit, on its not used to power the speakers and sub. The speakers used on a bose system are amplified by an independent amp for each speaker where as the factory non bose isn't amped, thats why is sounds better.

Do yourself a favor and think before you post.
