Battery drain and maybe the alarm....

I have had this little problem now for about a month. It is really cold here in the NYC area. My car sits for about a week at a time outside (with a car cover of course). It seems like for every really cold week that we get here (meaning 5-10 degree F, and 5-0 degree windchill factor) the battery drains if the car is left standing for over a week without running. The first time the car did this a few weeks ago, my alarm triggered, and it would not shut off. I charged the battery, and the alarm reset, so no problem here. I did notice that when I purposely set the alarm to sound, the aftermarket upgrade I installed reset itself ok, but the factory alarm kept going.

Tonight, I went to start the car, and the battery was too weak to start it. This time, the alarm didn't go off by itself, and I had enough power to chirp it off and open the door.

Has anyone had a problem like this with their stock batteries, because I will have to get mine checked out to locate the source of the drain, and/or if I have a bad battery. Any advice will be appeciated.

I have had problem with the stck battery in my 2002 subburban. I live in CA and one morning it wouldn't start. The battery was dead. My dad has had the same trouble with his 2003 yucon XL. We have replaced them with optima batteries. So far no troubles.
