i've never seen this install before.... maybe its a first?

Nice job! Care to give some install tips. I have actually already mounted mine, but I have another year before I drive my SS again, which gives me plenty of time to redo them. I'm not to happy with their current location.

 

I'd like to see the other side...

I was considering putting them in the upper dash pad pointed at the windshield, but if this location is easier, I might go for that instead.

Use about a 1.5" (or however big the base of your tweeter is) circle doorknob drill bit and cut the circle above the air vent as pictured. Pull your air vent out to make sure you don't go too far over (there is only one spot that is hollow enough to drill through) If your hole is the right size then the tweeter mount should slide right in and the rim of the tweeter should fit flush to the dash. I ran my wires through the hollow compartment between the glove box and airbag.

Imaging from that spot would seem to be non existent? I know higher up in the dash as mentioned above is a nice spot with some potential, as is in the pillars...

 

The only problem with that location is that the sun's UV rays will fry those tweeters within a year or two depending how much time the car spends sitting in the sun. The dirver side looks like it might have some protection but the passenger side looks like it will get a lot of exposure.

 

Good point LS1 RULZ. I hadn't thought of the damage the sun would do to those. What I really want to do is get some pillar pods and mount them in there, but no one makes passenger side pillar pods. Oh well.

 

Actually , i have seen passenger side pillar pods for sale.... can't remember where though....

and about the uv rays, the sun probably will bake the tweeters in time , but i normally replace my tweets after a year or two anyway, so the sun's really not a factor for me.

hey if you plan on replacing them every now and then I can understand that mounting spot as it won't affect you at all and it definately looks sweet as hell. i plan on trying to keep the system I have for awhile. I'm very happy with it except for my front tweeter placement. So if you ever remember where you saw the passenger pods let me know. I actually thought I had seen them before as well, but then when it came time to do the install I couldn't find anything. PLEASE PLEASE tell me they are out there somewhere. I don't feel like making my own as building trim pieces is something I am not good at. For now I'll just keep them where they are.

 

Very nice job, although it'd suck if you ever decided you didn't like that location or decided to remove the stereo.

I placed mine at the bottom of the A-pillars in my old car.

It worked really well at bringing the soundstage higher in the car. My knees always blocked the factory location.

how much room is there behind the plastic? I've been wanting to mount the tweeters in the pillars but am somewhat afraid there's not enough room behind the panels for the tweeter cups.
