Question Audio help needed, not an F-Bod but a basic set up

Hey fellas, I installed some new speakers in my beater last night, an 89 240sx.

I already had a new JVC headunit installed running on the stock speakers, they were alright for lower volumes buit really showed their age when turned up or asked to do any bass output.

I installed 4 new Eclipse speakers in all corners and my system sounds like crap. Now before someone says run new wires, it ran decent with the stock speakers.

Right now they run as if they cant ouput ANY bass at all. sounds very cheap, almost as if the speaker is pushed beyond its limit for bass except the speakers are at a low volume.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

it means that each speaker has 2 wires, a positive and a negative and you switched them around.
You have the positive from the deck leading to the neg on the speaker and so forth.

Check the settings on the HU to see if the HPF is set too high (if your HU has one). Also, small speakers, especially when they're not in some kind of enclosure don't give off too much "bass". It also doesn't help that you're powering them with just HU power. If you want low frequencies I'd say go with a small subwoofer setup.

regardless of running a sub or not, which i wont be doing in this car, these speakers should at least sound better than the stock speakers. i'm not looking for bass thumping hair shakin action. just these speakers sound like crap. big time. and they aint cheap ones.

i bought new wires last night and i'm gunna run them through the car as i think i have one wired wrong or the wires are just old...

Often aftermarket speakers were designed to be used with an amp so they weren't designed to be used with the low power you get from a head unit. I bet if you threw a 50x4 amp on them you will be amazed at the difference.

ok ok ok, this is starting to go down the wrong road here. its not the fact that i don't have an amplifier running the speakers.

theres is *no* quality in the sound of my system. none. no matter if the volume is high or low, the bass sounds distorted....

***update***

I swapped the wires around in the rear speakers. (switched the ends they were connected to on the speaker.

with the balance to one side all into one speaker in the rear, it sounds good with good bass, same if you go to the other side.

put them together and all bass is gone and sounds like crap. (some distortion)

the front speakers however sound good if i have the fade all to the front and both of them going.

i'd run new wires and see where that puts you.
it shouldn't be too hard, and at least you know that's not the problem.

Yeap, out of phase. Switch the wires on one of the rears and it should improve. If you do both, youll be in the same boat. Give that a shot and see where it gets ya.
