Cool Anyone Ever Mount Amp Under Pass Seat

Is this possible? Are there any decent 2 channel amps that will even fit under the passenger seat?

Bad idea. First of all there isn't enough room to allow for sufficient cooling for the amp. Second, there isn't a flat spot to bolt the amp down. If you try to bolt it down on an uneven surface it's possible to twist the chassis of the amp by over tightening the screws and possibly damage the circuit board inside. If you try to place a board under the carpet to shoot screws into you loose even more room under the seat.

Well, it may be a bad idea but I have had my Alpine 3555 4 channel amp (running components in the doors and bridged to a stealthbox in the rear) there for 8 years and 113,000 miles in my 93 A4. The amp chassis is plenty strong enough (in the case of the old Alpines).

In my 98 I have just installed a JBL amp behind and kinda under the driver's seat. (it is a 1LE so no power seat). But it like the Alpine is mostly in the footwell. But I very very seldom have anyone in the back and never behind the driver. No room left.

I know of no cooling problems but I suppose it is possible. Still sounds great however!

I had my 500a2 mounted behind the passenger seat a while back when I had my 94.

It wasn't actually 'mounted' though. It just kinda sat there. lol It worked fine .. when people got in the back seat (rare) .. I just put the floormat overtop of it (and kept the amp off, damn that would get hot otherwise). It got enough air circulation to it and whatnot. Only hassle was putting the floormat back over it when I left the car so as not to leave it in plain sight.

I had my IVA-C800 brain mounted there for a short time. I'm not saying an amp won't fit and I'm not saying that it's a bad idea, but I will say that I'm fairly confident you can find better places for an amp to fit.

I had an old MTX Thunder 2160 in that location for at least 4 years with no problem at all. I only moved it because I upgraded to an older model PPI PowerClass 1400 and I mounted it in the hatch.

I just wanted to clear something up here. I didn't mean you can't do it because it will set the seat on fire or anything like that. Heat and vibration are the 2 worst enemies of electronic equipment. Theres not a lot you can do about all the vibrations in a car but you can help keep the amp cool by not mounting it under something. If you place your hand on your amp and it feels pretty hot I can guarantee you that the actual output transistors inside the amp are a LOT hotter. And if your amp happens to get so hot that you can't leave your hand on it you've got a real bad cooling problem. The cooler you can keep your amp the longer it will probably last. Go ahead and try mounting it under the seat but if it ever shuts off while you're jammin' check to see if your amp has gone into thermal protection mode.

Thanks Guys,
I just ordered a JBL P80.2, It measures 8.5 X 8X 2 11/16. I think I can mount it behind the spare tire. I'm going to use this amp to power the back two 6/34 speakers. I did mount the subwoofer amp in the spare tire pretty much the same as ls1 rules did. The other 2 channel amp is mounted under the passenger side spare tire cover panel to.
I live in Europe and car audio theft is rampant. I have to keep all my components hidden.
