Amp Placement and New system ideas HELP!!
Hey guys,
Just purchased my first car, 2001 red z28. Its the freakin best! Anyways, the system sucks and speakers are busted. I have some questions:
1. I want a good sounding system but don't have all the dough in the world to spend. I was thinking some nice 6.5"s in the front and back with a 4 channel amp pushin them. I'm not an audio freak but would like to turn it up sometimes.... what do you think? Any suggestions? Speaker selection?
2. I was wondering if anyone was experience with putting an amp under the passenger seat in 4th gen models. Is it doable? I'm having trouble deciding where I should place it and how.
3. I have the suspitions that there used to be a monsoon system in the car. The previous owner ripped it out and put a pioneer HU in and his own speakers with a stealth box in the back it looks like. Thats ALL gone now except the head unit. Can I use the existing speaker wiring in the car?? A copper wire is a copper wire but is there anything I should be aware of like the gauge of the wire is too small???
Please help!!! I'm new so any advice is appreciated!

Here's my suggestion...
If you already have a HU that's a good start...
I'd get a nice set of either components, or co-axials for the front, leave the back empty and get another stealth box with a 10" sub. Run it all off of a single 4ch amp, I'd mount it in the back(on the back wall), there's NO roon under the PS seat, I had an amp there and it got HOT, and I had to do some serious modifications to get it to fit, and the seat didn't move once it was installed, nothing I'd recommend.
That will make the system sound really good, and you can do it on a budget.
The Speaker wire, I myself am a freak about, and because you can get it for cheap, I'd suggest re-running new stuff, and using atleast 16Ga, brand doesn't matter. It'll take a coat-hanger to get it through the door grommets, but it's not hard, just take your time and think.
For the enclosure, check out www.subthump.com, the owner is a member here (megabass). For front speakers, just go with a reputable name, and get the best you can afford.
For the sub and amp, let us know what your budget is and I'm sure all of us on here can come up with something for you.

Thanks for the advice..
I was looking to spend around $300-350 dollars. I know that's pretty tight but I'm not looking for the best. The stealth box sounds good and I'm going to go with that. I was just thinking of a setup of front sony speakers, amp, and sub to keep in budget. I know some might scoff but am I going to get a decent system out of this or am I going to be disappointed down the road??

I'm not a large Sony fan, there are better products out there for cheaper prices, and the quality isn't wat it used to be.
I think that with that budget, and what you are starting with, it'll be an easially upgradable system, so even if you don't like it, you can upgrade piece by piece and grow/replace the system with better equipment.
I'm an large Infinity fan, and I know you can get a set of their speakers that will go in the front, and an Alpine Sub, with a decent Hifonics 4ch amp for that budget, although it's not leaving much for the install needs, Add a wiring kit from either Ikesound.com or Knukonceptz, and you should be pretty close to budget.

Pheonix Gold Ti for the sub. Thezeb.com is having a smokin deal on a pair of CDT's. I wouldn't haste in buying those. Can anyone recommend a high power 4-channel amp in that price range? ATLEAST 75WRMSx4@4ohms. Ebay is the cheapest place to buy just about anything. Buy your wire there. Or maybe www.knukonceptz.com or www.darvex.com
