Amp Compatability
Re: Amp Compatability
honest answer.... dump anything you own sony, and go with something a little better at least; I recomend Hifonics, RF, MTX, Infinity, or something simlar for amps and subs as well as Elemental Designs, Adire, and Resonant Engineering for subs.
Sony's mobile car audio is not good stuff to be honest, much much better can be purchased for similar prices.

Re: Amp Compatability
I realize that Sony is not the best brand out there, but i dont think its that bad. The headunit and amp i currently have are working great for me....not the best solution for everyone, but good for starters.

Re: Amp Compatability
Sony back in the day had sme good amps. All their newer stuff ie last 2 or 3 years have been sub par when compared to anything in the same prive ranger or lower. Peak power dosent mean much when helping you choose subs. Give us the RMS per channel. What kind of music do you listen to the most. Do you want all bump or clearity or a mix. Sraight off the bat you should look at three major brands to give you a starting idea. 1 is alpine. Only look at the dual voice coil 12's. I personally have a single 12 running off a amp that can give it what it needs power wise and it hits really hard. It has decent clearity in larger air spaces but i personally feel in the camaro its crazy overkill. That being said it will hit really hard when given power. 2 Infinity. Infinity has always been about nice crisp clean bass. In the past they havent had the hitting power. They have also been rather ineffiecent with power. Thats all changing now and they are a really good mix of power and clearity. I am planning on selling my dual coil set up and going to 2 10s of the kappa or perfect series. Last but not least is MTX. MTX when given power can hit harder than the two brands listed before. They have really no clearity at all in my opinion. IF all you want is bump for the b*tches then they migh be your choice. Every brand can do some things better than another. Decided whats most important and give us some power specs and i will do what i can to point you in the right direction.
