Alternator question???? please help
Alternator question???? please help
I have two amplifiers in my 00' camaro Z28. A lot of the time whe I first turn on my car the battery gauge is all the way to the right and doesn't move back to the median until my car has been running for a while. While this is going on, my amp often cuts out and multiple dashboard icons flash on and off. This persists until my car has been running for a while and hence juices up my battery. MY QUESTION IS... DO I NEED
1)a new alternator
2)a seperate battery for my amps
3)a capacitor
THANKS SO MUCH

You've mistakenly posted in the Fuel and Ignition forum.
However, from my experience you should have no trouble running a couple of 200 watt amps on an F-body. I had two 200 watt Pioneer amps in my V6(back when I had it) and had no trouble with the electrical system.
I think your alternator or battery is fried. Go to Autozone and have them load check the battery. If it is fine, the alternator is your best bet for trouble.

I have doing wiring for a very long time, if its not showing a reading at all you more than likely have a bad wire or fusable link, Rule the battery out if the car is starting fine. The battery will show its power on the dash when in the ignition is in the on position. If it dosent and it still cranks and flickers the gauges i would say you have a loose conection between the main fuse box and the batter.
if the alternator wasnt charging you would have to jump it off every time you crank it.
If you can give me some better details pm me and i will help you anyway i can
