Alpine and the Monsoon Stereo Question
Alpine and the Monsoon Stereo Question
I've been thinking about something. I am planning on buying an Alpine H/U, an amp, along with new speakers for the door and sail panels. I would be running all new speaker wire. The Alpine has a setting where the Headunit itself provides no power, leaving the amplifier to provide all speaker power.
I do not liek the Monsoon system, and was thinking about bypassing it completely, by setting the H/U on Defeat mode, and not connecting the speakers to the wiring harness. Would this work?

Re: Alpine and the Monsoon Stereo Question
No reason why it would not work.
From the factory harness you really need just a few wires.
Constant +12
switched +12
GND
Dimmer
For the amps to turn on you'll need the remote turn on lead.
That's it.
Just tape off everything else that's unused, run your rca's, power wires, etc and you'll be all set.
Btw, this applies to any aftermarket HU, not just alpine.
Which alpine you considering?

Re: Alpine and the Monsoon Stereo Question
I'm looking at the 9853. I just want to be sure that it would work this way, cause the Monsoon system is crap, and I want to either override it or totally remove it. I would like to avoid the monsoon putting out any sound at all, but I do not know what to do with the power antenna. The rest of the wires, such as illumination, I can look at in the service manual, unless they are all standardized and it explains them in the Alpine installation book.
Also, the new Alpine harnesses have seperate leads for the power antenna and the remote turn on. I have the power antenna and would like to keep it. Does anyone know what I would connect thje remote turnon lead to? Thanks again

Re: Alpine and the Monsoon Stereo Question
The remote turn on lead would go to wherever your amp is. The antenna wire would get spliced into the wire coming from pin 8 of the factory harness.
