Are "alarms" like this worth it?

I'm looking for something that can be used and installed easily and not be incredibly expensive. I came across this while looking for other parts on summit and was wondering if anyone has ever used this or something similar. I have never heard of this company either, so any other options would be great. Im just looking for something basic because we have had issues in my neighborhood lately.

A buddy of mine ordered a VPA remote starter and had me install it for him. Overall, it was poor quality. If you want something that pretty much just scares away people, it might work. If you want more than that, I would recommend going with something else. If you're looking for something that will keep people from stealing your car, look up Ravelco. I think it's www.ravelco.com. It won't do much else, but you're car won't disappear.

You get what you pay for.

I always recommend Clifford products. http://www.clifford.com/

im not too worried about someone stealing it...its blocked in by other cars anyway. There have just been some break-ins in cars around here at night so I just want to make sure I know about it if it happens and I can run out there. Thats why I dont want to spend a huge amount of money. I'll have to check out cliffords prices...

I have a Viper in mine, and I have had no problems with it. Just like bmnicolosi said, you can't go wrong if you buy anything from Directed Electronics. If you're not going to install the alarm yourself, don't take it to a place like Best Buy or Circuit City. I had a buddy that got a Clifford installed at Best Buy in his 92 RS. Well, he ended up getting rear ended, and his car was a total loss. He asked me to come over to take his alarm and his stereo out before they came to tow it away. So I take of the knee bolster to find the shock sensor was just zip tied to a bunch of wires . Didn't do much in the way of setting the alarm off, that's for sure.

You're going to go running out there every time you hear a car alarm?

That'll last about a day.

I had installed the Viper 791XV on my Camaro and it was the best money I've ever spent. I'm sure the price has dropped since I got it but I think I spent around $400 total including the installation. It has the two way pager so if someone even bumps your car you are made aware up to a certain distance.

In the first week I had it, someone backed into my car in a Subway parking lot and started to take off. I was able to run out and catch them because the responder caught my attention.

It ended up paying for itself within that first week.

With our cars you have to have one with the following features as a MIN...

Glass Breakage & Motion Sensor;

I've got one in my car from years ago back when I bought it in '99 and it was right around $100 and it works great. I did upgrade and customize it some though Nothing like 3 130db sirens going off when someone tries to pull something!! (Oh, and mine's adjusted properly where it will only chirp unless someone actually breaks the glass, or sticks their arm in and open window/t-top.

Theres an alarm system my boss was tellin me about that comes with a video camera...if you wave your hand in front of the rims or tires or even the windows it chirps but when you attempt to get into the vehicle a camera that turns 360 degrees automatically comes on...so i take it that it recording everything...

The alarm with the camera is from Scytek or somethink like that. They are ok. As others have said stick with Clifford or DEI. I would also like to add Compustar and Ungo to the list. The Ungo's are alarms made by DEI for Clarion corp. Compustar make highend alarm/remotestarts packed with features and have excellent range.

You should make a new post to ask that question -- it really doesn't have anything to do with alarms.
