Alarm systems... List of demands

Hi,
Now that I am starting to put some nice stereo stuff and interior I am affriad that some people might wana get in it and do somthing stupid

I am looking for an alarm system, and like the features on different ones but cant find one to do it all.

Here is what i would like it to do

Alarm, with sensors door hatch shake glass etc

pager/remote so i know when its going off

remote door lock
remote hatch
remote windows
remote start

it would be ideal if they work with the alarm. Ie i can leave the windows down door unlocked but if the alarm is triped windows up doors locked or any possible combinations similar.

The closest thing I found was this

DEI hornet But I dont know anything about it or how it installs in my car. It seems really well priced here, but is that a quality issue or a good deal?

DEI is by far the best. You cant/wont go wrong with them.

As far as installing, I wouldnt reccomend doing this your self, especially as complex as you want it. The hardest part is finding a competitent installer. There arent many who care anymore. If you find one you will pay for his time.

I installed the hornet 554t in my car last month. It wasn't fun but wasn't that hard. My problem was that I didn't want to use the remote start so according to the tech support the guy I bought it from gave me I just had to not hookup the module.....however if you dont then you still have to hook up the ignition wires or the alarm brain won't reset, then my other problem was with wiring the microwave sensor to the external shock sensor. I still haven't figured out how thats supposed to work and haven't had a chance to try and fix it.

So if your up for it do it yourself and follow brent frankers install guide if not have it done for $200 and save yourself the time. I would do it myself but thats just me.

PS the hornet 554t is a nice alarm, and you can get it for like $160 on ebay

thats what a local autorized DEI dealer quoted my friend to install a dei alarm he got on ebay. Install would be free if you bought it from them but it also costs $599 for the 554t from them.

I will be installing the hornet 554T in my cousin's '89 vette, just waiting for it to get here. Should be here any day now. I'll let you know what I think of it.

Cool,
I am pretty good with electronics but Ive never done an alarm before. I think I will get this one and give it a go. The place I found selling it online has it on sale and includes custom instruction for your car ( most likly what color wire and where its located ) and phone technical support.

I hate ebay and it is always worth more to deal with a real store.

x7x7 - you should definately tell me how the install goes and what you think about it. I will try and wait for you before I make the move.

You can hook up the proximity sensor to either the blue wire in the primary harness if you want it to trigger zone 4 or you can hook it up to the green wire going to the shock sensor if you want it to trigger zone 2 (cut the wire going to the shock sensor and connect it to the proximity sensor's outputs instead).

Looks like the alarm will most likely be here tomorrow but possibly friday.

Which harness do you mean? You have to connect the ignition wires from the remot start harness? Which wires need to be connected from which harness? I will also be installing this alarm without the remote start because the car isn't driven in the winter. I assumed that I would just not use the remote start harness at all.

Alarm got here today, I really like the pager remote. I probably won't have time to install it until tomorrow or saturday, I'll let you know what I think of the range, I've heard it's about 5 city blocks or so.

Any shop should be able to do it. One thing I forgot is you have you to wire a trigger the BCM cause it shuts down after a while. If you dont do this, the car wont unlock, the hatch wont pop etc. I forgot exactly what has to be done, but Im sure I can come up with the details at work tomorrow.

Again, this isnt exaclty a job I would reccomend to a newbie . This is far from an easy task. Although, it is do-able. Just be sure to set aside A LOT of time, 6-8hrs +.

I don't know about 5 city blocks im not getting anything near that. I'm not using the remote start harness either (M6), and you still have to hook up to the ignition wires off the main brain harness (pinki wire i think) or the alarm doesnt reset itself. Then as far as the sock sensor and proximity sensor I'll have to let you guys know how it works out.

WTF does an alarm have to reset itself?

Most alarms will come with atleast 4 relays.

Youll need 12vC, Ignition, Sec Ignition, ACC, Starter even if youre not doing a remote start; for starter kill.
