Aftermarket Alarms.... Viper .... ?'s
Aftermarket Alarms.... Viper .... ?'s
I am lookin in to ordering an alarm for my bird and i was wondering if anyone could gimme some tips on them.. will i need a VATS disabler or something to bypass it? which alarms would you guys recommend? what are the best, most affordable, easily installable alarms?
viper would be a good choice. Pretty much anything from DIE is good. I would look into starter kills, passive alarms, and I would highly suggest an alarm pager and a field sensor and back up battery.
its DEI, not DIE!!!!!!!
Yea DEI is good from what I hear...Clifford makes some really good ones, but alota $$....after I get my cam install and save up some more, ill prolly look into a Viper 550 ESp with remote start and maybe get some proxy sensors for when my TTops are off..Atleast I think thats what those sensors are for.

Dei has patents on almost every alarm component (remember the huge code alarm law suite?). And yes they are a very good reputable company. You wont have to worry about vats unless its a remote start as well but even then it only a resistor away from working. The clifford matrix rs3 retails for $500 and has a lcd remote that tells you the status of the car ie what sensor went off ect. As far as installing it yourself, well its not very hard if you know what your doing but if not most places include the install in the price of the unit. Good luck

Very true, most shops include installation with the price of the alarm. If you got the money to spend get one with a two-way pager. That's one where the car talks back to the pager as well. Think about it. You want remote start, right? Say your in the house and you press the remote start button..... how do you know that the car actually started??? With a two-way pager, the car will send back a message telling you if the car started!

What?!?! Are you crazy?? Installing an alarm is WAY more difficult then any car audio gear....... that is if it includes starter kill, keyless entry, remote start, etc.....

i have a 95 camaro and i'm in the business of car audio. i just installed the viper790xv with the pager. clifford was bought out by viper. so there all the same now. alarms are no joke to install. they're the hardest peice to install in a car. take to some one who can do it. they intergrade with the vats system as i did. if you are looking for a good alarm thats the best out now. but if you wanna spend alittle less the viper 550esp is great to just no pager. and if you just want an alarm go with the viper 600esp. you have the greatest options and it works great.......take it from someone who does it....any other guestions just let me know....peace out
Definitly go with DEI!
I would NOT reccomend the proxy sensor!
I originally had one since I have t-tops, and I had a friend who had an Ungo with on in his convertible.
They would be great if they weren't so darn sensitive. It doesn't matter how much adjusting you do, you will never get it right.
I turned mine down really low one time (just to test it), it was low enough that I could literaly reach all the way into the car without even getting the warning chirp... But, if a car drove by the front of my car, the alarm would go off. These things are wacko. My friend with the convertible had the same problems. He disconnected his, and I just replaced mine with the standard shock sensor.
Do yourself a favor, and don't **** off you neighbors, you will end up getting your car keyed if you alarm is going off every time someone drives by your car. Just get the shock sensor, and put your t-tops back on when you park it.
Later,
Matt
