On the 2.8 ohms thing, it seems like you have the voice coils in series. (which would be giving the amp a 4 ohm load) Make sure you have it so both voice coil's pluses go to the plus on the amp and both minuses on the speaker go to the minuses on the amp. Or, as my brother just said, all pluses go to pluses and all minuses go to minuses. The multimeter should read somwhere around .75 to 1 ohms dc resistance and make sure the sub is unhooked from the amp when checking it. Having the amp in the mix when checking it may or may not affect things but take it out of the picture and see if it changes the result.

So I boned it and wired it to 4ohms........maybe the amp is clipping since the sub would only be getting like 250 watts! That could be my problem since the amp is rated at 1000X1@1ohm and 500X1@2ohms............thanks for the help! I will try and get to it over the weekend and let you know what the deal is!
